Allegro Lights (1 Viewer)

My partner and i have recently bought a Tiffin Allegro with the intention of full-timing, however the lights on the RV are about as bright as a victorian gas lamp! fortunately the site we are on has a great RV specialist, unfortunately though he has had a look at them and told us that the bulbs only have a single filament, and the last time i spoke to him was unable to source some brighter ones (assuming they exist!)
So we're guessing other Allegro owners have had the same problems and thought this might be a good place to get some answers!
so please, if anyones got any ideas let us know, as i don't really want to resign myself to only driving in the daylight!

Sorry, can't help with sourcing lamps, our RV has poor headlights too, my solution was to replace the 'running' lights on the bumper with a pair of good quality high power driving lights..

Hi what type of lheadights are they?

My 98 Allegro had sealed beam units when one packed up I was able to source different bulbed units from a helpfull motor factor shop and then able to use higher powered bulbs, I had to only slightly modify the back of the units remove a little hoop I seem to remember:thumb::thumb

This was the Tiffin Allegro

R-V Lights

Hi

If you have the 4 Lamp system then there may be a solution in the LUCAS range. I have a 4 lamp (Dip/Main) on the Odessa and the units are LUCAS with Halogen Bulbs.

I also havs a spare (L-Hand set) which I can swop for "continental" use.

Regading poor headlights there is a cure if you take a look at my web-site winamotorhome you wil notice on the home page i refer to bright headlights, If your electicly minded like me then it's not a problem, Otherwise you will need an automotive person to carry out the conversion, if you need any advise on how to carry out the work please let me know,

These are the old units I recently replaced with new from a local Lucas dealer who got me original (Hella) units for a Very reasonable cost.

I Just ordered 4 "Blue" Halogen units for them and bought new connectors for the "Bulbs"

Amazing lights now.

"snap" mine are from Lucas, but just about everything else is the same. the Hella Units could even be Cheaper.

Thanks for the replies everyone, i've briefly spoken to the RV specialist, and i know he's been on the site and seen the post, and he's still on with it searching for an answer. i've also mailed Tiffin in the states to see if they have any ideas, i've had a mail back asking for the chassis number, so i'm hoping they might have a solution.
regarding the actual lights, they are different to the pictures on here, they're a wider shape which curves around the sides, as soon as i install the software for my new camera i'll put some pictures on!

Righty ho, i've got the pictures and finally got them onto my computer, so here they are, the one on the far right is the back of the light where the bulb fits, hope these help. :thumb:

just to let you all know, i got a free pair of Halfords Superbright bulbs, supposedly 50% brighter, and have just tried them in the dark, i'd say they are about 20% brighter, so they have made a difference, but i've been reccomended Osram silver xenon ones, they're apparently the brightest you can get apart from 100w rally bulbs, which aren't road legal, so i'm ordering a pair of the osrams and i'll let you know how they go.
Oh, and i got a reply from Tiffin, they can do all the main parts, (new light fittings and lenses) but not bulbs.

That's handy and close to me here in Southampton:thumb::thumb:

Regarding higher power bulbs due to possibly more heat being generated is there any danger of damaging the headlight glass or plastic at all???

Improves visibility at a distance of up to 75 metres

this is for the Osram Ring Ultra Xenons, which i'm going to order when i've typed this.
i'll let you know how much better they are, might save you buying them if they're not worth it!

Shiny new bulbs

Just to let everyone know, I got the Ultra Xenon bulbs today and have just fitted and tried them in the dark.
LOADS better! even brighter than the Halfords (supposed) 50% brighter ones.
they give out a much whiter light than the standard bulbs too, i tried the standard ones before the Halfords bulbs across the site we're on, across from us are trees about 60-70 foot away, with the standard ones i could barely see the trees, the Halfords ones lit them up a bit, but the Ultrs Xenons lit them up really well.
So I'd highly recommend them, especially for the sixteen quid they cost.

I am now a happy bunny!

Hi Hobson

When I bought my Tiffin Allegro I had to travel 220 miles straight off to get it home, the brightness was one thing I didn't check before I bought it.

It soon became apparent that they were well under par on my journey home. When I tested the voltage at the lights it was only
10 volts.

The way I solved the problem was to put relays on the headlights and add two spotlights all have their own separate relays,
now I can see as well as I can in my car and I did not change the original bulbs.

It works for me, try it. there is only the cost of three relays to lose, but make sure that the relays are 30amp or you may melt the fuse.

bit late now, but reading this post today, i would also go along with checking the voltage at the bulbs with engine running. it ought to be 13-14 really..

my car has thin wires to the main and dip bulbs, and these nick some voltage.. I did the thick wire and double relay mod and it's helped and will help osrams or whatever in the future..

the original wires to dip and main become the switching wires on the relays

dont forget a nice big earth
