That post is from 2014 and old-mo has changed motorhomes (and houses) a lot since then.

To run any form of heating on 12v batteries you will need a lot of them and a very large roof on the motorhome to take the number of solar panels needed to keep them topped up. Best use gas or diesel if you do not have ehu.

wouldnt that be why an inverter is used ??
Not sure I understand.

An inverter takes 12vDC from the batteries and changes it to 240V AC. Heating loads are very high and will run your 12V batteries down in no time and bugger them up unless you have a very large battery bank (and very large diameter 12v cables). And you will then need to find some way of topping all those batteries up very quickly, hence a large solar array.

An inverter is better used for lower power loads or heating loads that run for a short time, for example using a low power hairdryer. Best use gas or diesel for your heating needs (depending upon what you have got) if you are not on electric hook up.

You would use an inverter for 240v to power devices like coffee machine, hair dryer or microwave BUT only for short periods of time so not use too much battery capacity, water or space heating requires a continuous supply of power so batteries and solar are not suitable unless you have a massive solar and battery install in fact whatever battery bank you have you need to take care with inverters as they can pull your batteries down pretty quickly if you don’t understand what you are doing.
