I'm sure there are lots of funsters that, like us, have found the aire at the Bas Nautique in Le Touquet a great place to spend some time. We have been visiting for 10 years now and have finally decided to award the stopover a thumbs down. The cost for 24 hours has risen steadily over the years and is now a whopping €15, €17 if you want to take on water. On our latest visit last weekend we were surprised to find the aire deserted and the whole area was looking tired, the service point was very badly in need of a jetwash where other customers had not been very careful with their emptying!!! The final straw which confirmed our early departure was the arrival of four coaches driving into the aire, completely blocking the road while they deposited hundreds of French school children into the parking area. For half an hour in disbelief we stared as the teachers marshalled the children before they set off for the town. We certainly hadn't paid €15 for this and voted with our feet, or in this case our wheels. So come on Le Touquet get with it and stop taking us motorhomers for granted there is too much competition out there for our precious Euros for you to sit on your laurels.

That's not particularly expensive for a popular location. If it's been a lot cheaper in the past and only gone up recently then it just means that the local Mairie have only just caught on.

Honfleur is a similar cost as is Chamonix which isn't even a dedicated aire, just part of a big car park.

Bruges is far more expensive at €25 in high season.

It's basic supply and demand - the more people want to visit a place the more they can get away with charging.

We're just outside Le Mans tonight on a nice little campsite I've tented on in the past.
Cost 11 euro without ehu which is similar and in some cases cheaper than we've paid for Aires on this trip.
Popular Aires are definitely getting more expensive in fact on this trip Acsi campsites have been better value.

IMO the Equestrian Centre is the better of the 2 aires at Le Touquet Paris Plage. Its a bit cheaper from memory than the yacht marina, is closer to the town, and not as congested.

And you are correct re the price of a camp site in France . I have just booked 28 nights camping for June 2017 for 19 motorhomes on a tour of the UK and have struggled to find many sites less than 20 pounds per night !

Yeah add the cost the weather and a negative attitude to motorhomes in the UK the reasons we very rarely use our van at home.

Bless the club , they are not complaining about the cost given they are used to aires or inexpensive sites ! Mind you the last group I took were impressed with the site facilities and cleanliness in Scotland compared to France lol

The trouble with the Hippodrome aire at Le Touquet is the fact that after they have had the temporary stables erected they don't clean up properly so you are parking on poo and piddle left by the horses disguised as wet wood shavings. Everyone to their own!!.

Municipal campsites are better value and often cheaper than 15 euros a night.

Municipal at Alencon about 30 miles north. Stayed here a few times with motorbike and tent for bike racing at Le Mans. Not close but ok for driving in, nice old town with bars and cafes.

Thanks for that Forestboy, driven through Alencon many times but never stopped.

Another good Municipal is Beaumont sur Sarthe about 15-20 miles from Le Mans

By contrast, Le Treport (Parc Sainte Croix) costs 9.70eu, includes water and ehu, is clean, well looked after and spacious with green areas.
We were there earlier this year and watched as two French campingcaristes who were asked if they had paid by the local gendarmes, said they had just arrived and were going to pay right away. They kept peeking around their vans to see if the police had gone then didn't bother paying. They were there several nights. They also had large, expensive vans but still felt the need to cheat!

We stayed at the equestrian aire 2 weeks ago and thought it great, lovely cycle path around the headland or an easy 2 mins to the town which had a massive Saturday market.
