aire, 3 day 2 nights neufchatal to veedee (1 Viewer)

for the first time since we got the motorhome were not traveling with one or the other of our kids and thier kids to our destionation in france, they want/need to travel far to fast (motorways) and too many miles in a day ( Im too knaXXerd for that now) so were meeting them there this year and travelling home alone after they have gone.

We have never done aires before because of the above situation, this year it going to be differant.:thumb:

Bearing this in mind Im looking for nice aire recomendations going somewhere on that route which will keep the o/h happy as a aire virgin, we are stoping the first night at Neufchatel en Bray then we need two nights going down somewhere around Le-mans/ Saumur and along to the coast ( no fixed route) and three nights possbily coming back up the coast and along upper normandy back to calais again no fixed route.

There's a nice aire by the river in Le Mans, just over the bridge from the city centre and there and some nice restaurants.

SITE DESCRIPTION This small municipal aire is located on the eastern side of the village, just off the main D357 road that bypasses the village (some road noise possible) in a grass/ park area where spaces are available on grass or on tarmac alongside the road. There is a small play area with picnic tables, tennis court & toilets as well as an adjacent artisanal service point with small drainage platform. Shops in village include a pharmacy, Boulangerie & Poste.

SITE DESCRIPTION: This Aire is situated in a large gravel car park, next to & overlooking the Sarthe River and with parking under mature trees -- a very picturesque spot. Plenty of spaces available here & no problem manoeuvring. There is an AireServices service point with a small grey drainage grid. Town centre & shops are 300m away across the river.
REVIEW
2007 This location is quite clean, well maintained & welcoming, in a pleasant situation next to the river & shaded by lovely trees. The village is very pretty with shops & a restaurant nearby - parking was quiet although we did notice some traffic noise from vehicles crossing the bridge over the river.

SITE DESCRIPTION A pleasantly situated aire, in a large gravel car park on the northern edge of the town, next to the Loir River & about 150m from the town centre & shops. The parking is bordered by grass verges & lined with trees providing some shade. Artisanal service point with platform drain & adjacent toilet block. A few shops, poste & restaurant in town as well as a Chateau/ museum.
REVIEW:
2008 A very pleasant little aire, next to & overlooking the Loir river (not the Loire), with an adjacent picnic area/ picnic tables. Quiet at night, plenty of spaces, level parking, good walks/ cycling, shops are a short walk away. Beach on river -- fishing, swimming possible. Nice little museum & chateau - open every day May to October.
2011 "Close to the Loir, 100m from the town centre -- an aire that attracts numerous fishermen. Good spaces on a clean site bordered by trees but on the other hand it is also used by cars." RECOMMENDED CAMPING-CAR MAGAZINE

A very pleasant location, 200m from the town centre, overlooking the river in a nice town with reasonable facilities. There is an artisanal service point with drainage platform together with a sanitary block with toilets & sinks.

I haven't used any of these as last time we were there I was taken poorly and only got as far as Amboise before having to come home . Hope these help. Let me know where on the coast you are heading and I will see what I can find.

Beaumont Sur Sarthe, just north of Le Mans, not an aire but a nice municipal on the edge of a small interesting town. We have stayed there a number of times.

SITE DESCRIPTION: Situated on the banks of the River Sarthe, this Municipal campsite is located in the medieval town of Fresnay-sur-Sarthe. Pitches here are of medium size, mainly level & grassy, laid out in terraces & separated by high hedges with some shade. Most have 6A electric with water close by & the sanitary block is a good standard.
Facilities on site include an outdoor heated pool, crazy golf, tennis & boules. There is a small shop on site selling basic groceries. Next to the camp there is a canoe hire shop where you can rent a canoe & take it along this interesting river.
REVIEW
2007 A nice little municipal campsite, sat right next to the Sarthe River in Fresnay. It has good pitches with plenty of privacy provided by surrounding hedges and shade is variable across the site. Some pitches are next to the river with good views. Toilets were fine. Pool is OK but we didn't use it much as the temperature was a bit on the cool side. Canoe hire is available at the site entrance -- well recommended; you can be dropped off further up the river & can then paddle back to Fresnay -- a lovely peaceful trip.

Pitches are large, grassy, level, separated by hedges & most having shade from the many trees on site. Most pitches have access to electric & water is available nearby. The toilets & shower block is very modern & of good quality with separate male/ female sections, laundry & dishwashing areas.
Leisure facilities include a large play area, volleyball, badminton & fishing in the adjacent river (some pitches being next to the river) -- as well as a games room. The town centre is only a short walk away where there are numerous shops, supermarkets, bars & restaurants plus a swimming pool.
REVIEW
2007 This place is excellent value; a lovely peaceful & relaxing site in an old French town on the banks of a beautiful river -- it's all I want from a site.
Pitches were good; especially those next to the Sarthe. Sanitary block was immaculate. You can buy bread & drinks from the lady who runs the site & if you need anything else, the town is only 10 mins walk away.
The river is good for fishing, the town has a swimming pool and there is a nice little playground on site.
I thoroughly recommend this site if you are in the vicinity.
2007 This is an excellent municipal site & although leisure facilities are limited the site itself is maintained to the highest of standards & therefore represents very good value for money. The sanitary block was quite new & had very good fittings, which were always spotless. The site itself was very quiet with no noise from any entertainment, etc -- just a pleasant riverside location with a good playground as well as grass areas for games & a modern games room. The campervan service point had a large platform drain with easy access & a separate chemical toilet point outside the toilets.
Beaumont is quite pleasant with a small supermarket in town + a large one on the edge & various shops / bars as well as a heated municipal pool. The campsite is very close to the A28 motorway making it a handy place for a stopover, but it was such a nice site that I noticed several people preferred to stay longer.
