In South Africa an AC is very handy with the summer heat 40C +

Froggy my Sprinter bus has got a normal house split AC unit.(220 volt) I do some bad dirt (gravel) roads without any problems. Unit fitted 12 months ago.

The inside unit sits above bed and the outside unit (modified) sits where the sparewheel use to be. Under the bus at the back. Sparewheel unit now on a sparewheel carrier on rear doors.

It is a 9000 BTU unit. 4.5 Amps. The stands in South Africa normaly at 15 Amps.

Local prive fitted 650£

Roof units are very expensive at 1600£ and very high for my parking at home.

In France right now with a newly fitted Dometic 3200 roof mounted unit. It cools very well when hooked up to mains as it is a beast of a thing but it is too noisy to leave on at night unless you are in a different room. I also went to the trouble and expense (£1500!) for the appropriate Waeco inverter which works fine for 20 mins or so, then trips out due to low battery voltage! I have 2 brand new 200 Ah batteries so not sure why this is happening. Maybe the alternator cannot cope?? Any ideas?
