We have fitted air assist to raise the rear end of our motorhome to avoid grounding when we leave our steep drive.

What pressure are other users operating at?

Our unit specifies 10-75psi. We are currently at 50psi and I feel we could do with a little more clearance. I am quite happy to drop the pressure again after leaving the drive, but wonder what others consider a "good" operating pressure for running at.

You never said what air assist you have fitted, we have the Drive-Rite system which specifies a maximum 100psi, and says that most motorhomes run between 45 to 90 psi. When fully loaded I run at 50/55psi and find it quite comfortable.

We have the AS Airsuspension and normally run it around 2.5-3.0 Bar (38-45 psi) but if you have an onboard compressor as we do you can adjust it on the run to give best ballance. I usually raise it fully to board ferries or Eurotunnel and let it down again when off.
AS suggest the air bags can be damaged if run any lower.

I run at around 50-70 psi with the trike in the garage (250kg) but come down to 30-45 when lighter.

That is with 8inch Dunlop air assisters. (perhaps it's a Salisbury thing, yo @Ninovan)

I can concur as I managed to let one of mine go flat and it punctured the balloon. An expensive lesson learned. I run my A.S. at about 2.5 bar have tried 3 bar but the ride was too hard. Try and see what suits you, but don't let ithe go below 1.5 bar for fear of puncturing the balloon.

I just upped my rear air springs , I was backing into my drive and Bang I hit the drive edge setts and it would not go in so I upped the pressure and it cleared them , just. Makes the fillings drop out at that pressure though, so need to come down a bit for the next trip.

When towin the car trailer our VB is at 2- 2.5 bar seems to be about right on our Exsis on Alko chassis so still have rear independent struts as well usually when not towing keep around 1 bar.

I ran the airbags at 60psi and rear dual wheel tyres at 80psi.....but the gross weight was 7500kg with about 60% of that on the rear.

Having test driven the motorhome I find the handling has improved, especially on round-a-bouts and feel that somewhere between 40-50psi will be about right for normal running.

However, it looks as though It will have to be around 70psi to clear the driveway when the towbar is fitted, then reduce the pressure for running around. Still, w/o the air assist I would definitely ground the tow bar so it's a small price to pay.

Many thanks for all the replies I have received since I first asked the question about fitting air assist. They helped me with decision making, enormously.(y)
