Advice please on scooter addition (1 Viewer)

Hi all,
This may have been answered already but I can't find it in search so could someone please advise me whether I could legally carry this type of scooter on a rack on the rear of my Bessacarr E560 please?
I plan to pass my full motorbike test if this is "a go'er" so that the boss and I can nip to town wherever we are.
I have no experience in or knowledge of loads etc. and have no clue where to start looking or working it out.

P.S. I need it on a rack as I don't want to tow anything.

Google watling towbar motorhome axle calculation.

You need to know weight on back axle loaded with all your kit. Also max allowed on back axle. Also actual weight of entire vehicle. So a trip to weighbridge is good idea.
Then look to use watling calculation.

If you are lucky all will be good. If not you may need to increase back axle load with air bags and maybe stronger tyres.
At this point you will need a qualified engineer to agree its all ok as they will provide letter for you to send to dvla who will issue ammended v5.
Try searching on upgrade axle, or upgrade weight on motorhomefun.

This one seems to be the most popular with MoHo owners but still weighs 137Kg.

You need to know the actual weight of the Scooter you want. I would tend to agree with others that said it will probably not be possible for a heavy scooter. But once you know the weight of the scooter, plus the existing weight on your rear axle then you can get some advice from reputable towbar installers such as Watling.

I was chatting to a British chap on an aire, as you do, and he said he has a Yamaha D'elight (stupid name!) 125 scooter which weighs under 100kg, not seen one in the flesh so can't say how 'big' it is for comfort but may be worth considering.

I think this is your problem. Given that you only want to use it to "nip into town" I suspect that a smaller lighter one will be fine. We have a 110cc Suzuki Address and it weighs in at just under 100kg. Does us fine for short rides and will go at 60mph 2 up. I think that that will probably be about the maximum weight you will be able to carry unless you uprate your Motorhome's maximum weight (both overall and on your rear axle), and that may or may not be possible.

If you take your van to a weighbridge you will probably find it weighs around 3000 Kg leaving 500Kg for every thing else, you and your wife could be a further 200Kg that would leave 300Kg for fuel and water, cloths, gas bottles, food. There is nothing left for any motorbike.
My bike weighs 150Kg and I struggle just to take it to IOM

As far as I know the Hydratrail easy lifter is the same as we use which is a towbar mounted scooter rack and not a trailer.

Depends. One version has wheels. But if it is just mounted on on the back as a rack then the OP has the problem of the weight of the machine, which will could exceed his MGW and probably will exceed the maximum weight on the rear axle. .

She wrong we have an easylifter hydrotrail has 2 wheels and I think 2 attachments to towbar

Thanks to everyone so far for the responses. It's clear that the size of scooter we want (Honda Majesty 400cc) is too heavy for a rack and as previously stated I don't want to use a standard trailer, but having looked at the aforementioned "Hydra Trail", it looks like the solution as it is apparently not articulated therefore no concerns over reversing "blind" plus it removes 75% of the weight onto the rack wheels.
Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong as I don't want to get one then find out.

I don't think the photo shows a Hydratrail, which is a UK made model. Looks like it is a similar European version. Details of the Hydratrail are here.

This is the actual Easylifter Hydra Trail.
It's a fixed trailer with castor type wheels which means no articulation on reversing.
I just need to get the fully loaded van weighed as previously stated and hope that 25% of the weight of the scooter and trailer are within limits.

I prefer the trailor option myself especially as I can use us it for all the other stuff we need when we go to dog shows with 9 dogs with us. I

should have said the trailer is a Ifor Williams single axle. I did have a Honda SH125 which was brilliant 2 up for local journeys but I wanted a something a bit bigger for long journeys so got a SH300 and just love it.

Those Hydra wheels look small. Wonder what a pot hole would do to one. Speaking of wheels, one of the reasons I went for the Honda Vision is because it has decent sized wheels and is only 103kg.

Put ours over the weighbridge last Thursday in full timer trim with full tanks, very pleased to find it weighs 4560kgs. 690kgs under max. 660kgs light on the rear axles.
