Just looking at buying a motorhome for myself and 3 dogs, didn't realise just how complicated that was going to be. Narrowed it down for the moment to 7m long and less than 2.3m wide (I'm used to driving LWB sprinter with car trailer), rear transverse bed (stop dogs jumping up). Looking at hymer MLT 560 and Dethleff Globebus t8. Also want level floor. Are there any other that people would suggest? At moment pretending money no object. Would greatly appreciate advice from those with experience.

Welcome to the House of Funsters :welc:
Get yourself to the NEC caravan and motorhome show. It's on early October if you wait till then

Go sit in every make, model and type and you'll soon find out what's good for you. Also lots of other motorhomers to ask questions with :)

I did exactly that and got what I wanted at the end of it:clap2:

can't beat a decent well looked after sprinter

Avoid:

SprintShift

SprintShift is an automated manual Grearbox that Mercedes handed down to VW in the Crafter they built for VW and re-branded "ShiftMatic. Known in the trade as "Sprintshit" and "ShitMatic. Very Similar to the BMW M3 SMG (Sequential Manual Gearbox). Bag of Odd sized Spanners.

SprintShite was never available on 616Cdi Sprinters as the Box was not up-to the job. Only the 6 Speed manuals could tow more than 750Kg and the 5G-Tronic, the only true Auto Option was limited in almost all formats to just 750Kg towing limit .

Go For:

Manual 6 Speed
4G/5G/7G-Tronic (9G-Tronic Currently only available in FWD (Odd considering it was designed for RWD cars))

Best Model years for Build Quality pre 2000
Best Model year for panel van 2014 on for anti corrosion
Best model year for drive, pre 2017 (RWD / 4X4)
Best Model for Engine V6 3.0
Best Model for Low Consumption X15 X16 X14 ENGINES

Latest series for SWB RWD are like rocking horse. White Rocking Horse with Auto Gearbox. MB Only really produced them for the German market . Sadly, Never produced 4X4 in SWB wheelbase. Again, odd, as these things are available widely in 4-Matic MB cars.

If I could ever find one, V6 Petrol US Versions with LPG Conversion with 5G-Tronic Gearbox
