With the amount of straw being used by power stations the price must have gone up, which must increase costs for cattle farmers. I guess in turn higher food prices which we will pay.

Great question. Yes and yes are the answers to the first part of your question.

Unfortunately farmers don’t set their prices for produce they sell (with the exception of farm shops, farmers markets and artisan products ) So it’s very difficult if almost impossible to pass on any increase of production costs to a processor let alone a supermarket as they will just import from another country to maintain their margin. Farmers in the main have to absorb any increase of inputs.

View attachment 247962 Blagdon lake near Bristol. Tomorrow we are moving to Tudor caravan park.
If that’s the Tudor caravan park near Slimbridge, it’s a great site. Lovely walks along the canal, if you fancy a long walk then if you cross the bridge near the site and turn right, eventually you come to Frampton on Severn, a delightful village (y)

Have a great time!

Round baler being delivered to us this morning, got it Pdi’d and was working with our customer by 4:30 this afternoon. Main reason for using a square baler is you can road transport a greater weight with square bales than round on a lorry. With more and more straw being used in power stations its all about transporting the maximum weight per journey.
Do these new huge balers still use nylon twine to hold the bales together?

Big square balers use nylon twine and have either four or six knotters depending on bale size, so 4 or 6 strings per bale. There is 7200m of twine per spool and a baler with 6 knotters will hold 24 spools of twine.
Modern round balers use nylon net to wrap the bales and each roll holds 3600m of net.

Yes it’s slim bridge. Just arrived and first time awning used. Video says 6 minutes to set up! Reality, about an hour.

Good evening, two days worth today, yesterday and today with loads more available at Fannying about in France, down in the Continental Touring section, France.
Set off yesterday from Interlaken for Brienz. The target the narrow gauge mountain railway featuring the Kneeling Cows engines. First aboard the boat Jungfrau.
image.jpeg

Above as seen from Fanny's windscreen just before I walked around to the landing stage.
image.jpeg

One of the kneeling cow engines pushing us up hill to the station (7500 feet up). The gradients are amazing. Next a shot with a diesel powered engine following us up.
image.jpeg

Next and awful selfie taken at the very top of the mountain on the viewing platform.
image.jpeg

After a pleasant light lunch at the small restaurant just down from me I caught the train back to Brienz and caught the paddle steamer back to base. The picture below was taken this morning before I caught the train to Grindelwald.
image.jpeg

A very pretty ship but difficult to get a good picture with the sun in the correct place.
After taking this shot I made my way to the station and caught the train to Grindelwald. There I changed and took the train to Kleine Scheidegg where I changed again for the Jungfrau line and rode to the top. (not cheap and pick a better day than me because it was shrouded in cloud)
A panorama view
image.jpeg

A view inside the summit station
image.jpeg

None of those people are with me and finally a view through the window at the top.
image.jpeg

After a light lunch I caught the train back down. More info at Fannying about in France as shown above, and of course more pictures. Though I have not written it yet so give it a while.

Cheers Clive

Was not having a go at farmers just supply and demand usually affected the price.

We went for the hat trick today and finished off in Honfleurs. Haven't stayed at the aire but half hour walk away to riviera st saveur under the bridge. Don't really notice road traffic noise unless you think about it. Personal opinion of Honfleurs is it is a pretty town but I ain't paying those prices. 18 euros for 50cl of wine and cheapest 25cl beer was 5 euros.

Splashed out and took Mrs DBK for lunch today.
After eating our fish and chips :) we wandered along Plymouth Ho! to look at the view.

And had a look at the Barbican waterfront.

The Kaskelot is here for a few weeks. Originally Danish she is now UK registered and is open as a wine bar during the day!

But there is a bit of competition for places to drink locally. :)

No idea. I can see them. Others have liked them so presume they can see them. I know when I have poor Internet the photos take a while to load.
Unless of course I have upset you and you blocked me. That wouldn't surprise me

Well a very good evening from Interlaken. A quick aside, there is a little girl playing to my left that reminds me of my daughter I lost in 1993, no, as far as I know she is not dead but her mother has prevented me seeing her in all that time. Just watching this little one brings back so much! Anyway enough of that mushy stuff.

I have had another terrific day for the train loving paddle steamer loving idiots out there.

I did not rush to get up and after the obligatories made my way to Interlaken Ost station and travelled to Thun on a very comfortable semi express. No pictures. My plan was to take the paddle steamer to Interlaken West and what a picture she looked.
image.jpeg

I misread her name for a second. I hung around thinking I would see her drop back to the berth that the vessel on her left was vacating. Wrong, she left from where she was moored.
image.jpeg

I took the 1240 voyage aboard this lovely vessel, she is the "Blümlisalp" and on the way one of our stops as by this enchanting chateau (or whatever it might be in the various Swiss languages).
image.jpeg

We crossed with this vessel on the way.
image.jpeg

A couple of those "ugly ducklings" we learned of as children (sadly I remained ugly).
Arriving at Interlaken West I took the train to Interlaken Ost where I changed and took the train to Brienz (these travel passes are brilliant) where I was able to take some pictures of my "kneeling cow" engines, just one to follow. For more look at Fannying about in France! Even though I am in Switzereland.
image.jpeg

Now, I have enjoyed some muscle relaxant and seen the reminder of my past, so it may not be until tomorrow that I update the Fanny thread. Please be patient.

Meanwhile back at the ranch ...... cheers Clive

It's a walnut. They shouldn't be ripe yet but given the odd year they might be getting close. When ripe the green outer splits but you can help them along with a knife - but it will stain your fingers black! :)

Just on my second van but still I'm a newbie
I'm presently touring Thailand on a Motorbike. Tonight I'm staying at a home stay and the lady of the house has just cooked me this; it tastes even better than it looks and a steal for 30 baht (approx £0.75p). The beer is cold too and plentiful.

I've not seen a single MH or camper van in SE Asia but the proliferation of pick up trucks would seem ideal for 5th wheelers or demountables.

I'm told that SE Asia is braced for an influx of Chinese MH travellers in the near future......
