Arrived at a managed Aiire yesterday.
Nice Aire though expensive with a view of the Seine so thought what the heck its only one night.
A guy there took me in the reception, took details from my passport. Could speak no English.
Said that we pay on departure.
Anyway he escorted us to a pitch, on the way he got waylaid talking to some other French people while we filled up with water.
We went ahead and pulled into a picturesque water front pitch 3 pitches away from other vans that were already there.
On our own aware that as our door is the "wrong" side we used a corner pitch, not to open up against another van to give them and us privacy.
The owner gestured to us that we were to come and pitch in the middle of 2 vans that are already there.
I tried to gesture that we wanted to stay in the corner pitch out of the way.
Anyway
We drove in to the pitch even though we were not happy as that would have impeded our view of the river Seine being a rear lounge mh.
Then he gestured tat we should turn around as our door was opening in view of the next door van, which would mean that for €15 a night we were looking into the vans windows either side of us
€7 placement €4 services,€4electric.
Bearing in mind that the whole 20 pitch Aire only had 3 vans in, 2 facing the river where there were 7 pitches.
why on earth would he put us in the middle of the 2 vans that were already there?
After much arm waving trying to get him to leave us in the 1st pitch we had gone to and away from the other vans, we were doing no harm pitched in the corner away from the others.
We said au revouir and went on our way.
On our way out I tried to pay him the €4 for the water that we had but he kept waving his hand refusing it saying something like I think, allee allee which I think is go go.
He looked amazed that we wanted to leave and him and his friends ranted on in French, goodness knows what he was saying, probably crazy English people.
He didn't like it one bit.
Did we do right to leave or would you put up with being ordered into the one place you thought was inappropriate.?
We left and found a free aire 8 kilometre away also with a view of the seine

I think you did exactly the right thing.

€15 a night for an aire is shocking enough for me to have left in the first place.

Hi
Could it have been that the electric was only supplied to those pitches you had the choice of ? The rest could have been on another circuit which may power up a lot of equipment that consumed electric but would not have been used.
As regards the rear lounge, some you win, some you lose,if i can find the site we stayed at the side of the river,i will post that, some m/homes had "Ring side" seats, others were tucked away out of sight
Tea Bag.
PS. When filling up in France with the lorry,my Derv card was OK,my mates was not,not being able to speak french and the lady having no english,a queue had built up while i tried to explain to use MY card. GOOD job i did not swear but i said to my mate,"Why can't she speak english ?" A french chap behind said,"Why don't you learn french ?".He then sorted it out for us,and with a handshake and a smile, off we all went. Threez Bonnn ?

REVIEW:
2008 Lovely spot with fine 180 degree views over the Seine & the Pont de Brotonne, absolutely tranquil but a bit remote with no facilities nearby. Picnic area here & cars appear to also use the spaces but it empties out in the evening. Clean borne in good working order. Ideal for a quiet night, footpaths along the river in either direction for a pleasant walk. St Nic is 5 mins drive away & has a small café/ restaurant that sells the jetons for the borne.

We stayed at Les Cerisiers at Heurteauville last week.

We have stayed at La Mailleraye aire in the past but the road was still closed so we thought we would try St Nicolas de Bliquetuit. We arrived in the evening and, although not full, there was very little space to manoeuvre and it felt very claustrophobic. The borne was out of action (and looked like it had been for some time) and the whole place felt dark and dirty, with lots of litter. We decided not to stay.

We were welcomed at Les Cerisiers by 'Madam' and were guided to our pitch - next to the other vans, backing onto the road, as all of the front pitches were full. It was the best spot however as it was nearer the river and away from the service area. She took our details and we ordered bread for the following morning.

Madam was very friendly but spoke no English and obviously liked things 'just so'!! It is more like a little campsite and not normally our 'thing' but we were happy (desperate!) as it was getting late and we were hungry!. We met 'Monsieur' the following morning when collecting the bread

We paid 7 euros for the pitch and 4 euros for services. We would go back but only if La Mailleraye is closed.

nowhere near long enough
We stayed there on our way back up due to the fact that Milleraiye was closed off due to road works and stayed in the corner pitch near the little gate onto the river bank.

That particular pitch is reserved for vans requiring electric hook up so perhaps there was something lost in translation.

Just in passing we found the gentleman and I presume his wife very friendly and accommodating

You made it sound his fault that he didn't speak English.....if your French is limited ...its hardly his fault that you have no idea what he was actually saying to you.

No I didn't say it was his fault he didn't speak English. He is French after all.
I only know a few French words but I am Welsh/English anyway but didn't like where we were being put so we left! !!
Nor having to pay €15 for the benefit when there were other aires nearby.
