Well we have finally picked up our 1st Motorhome
And I have a few questions that may seem silly to you vets but I'm not proud.

What is the big silver windscreen protector for ?
I put it on on the way home but found it a bit scary

The windscreen protector sounds like an external silver screen. Do NOT put it on when driving
It goes on when you're pitched to act as insulation and privacy.

So just for insulation really, I am thinking it seems to take up a lot of space, and do I really need to take it when touring or just whilst parked up at home?

If you've got blinds on the windscreen then you don't really need it. I don't have Silver screens myself, but many claim they're good for reducing condensation on the windscreen. They are a bit of a faff to put on and take down, and definitely unwise to use in any situation where you might need to drive off in a hurry such as a wild camp place.

Definitely keep them with you. A big A-class windscreen is the greatest source of heat loss in the van and the external screen really makes a difference. We have internal concertina Remis blinds as well, but I would not think of sleeping in the van without the external screens when it is cold outside - certainly when near zero or below. Without them, you will find quite a lot of condensation in the morning. Also, they can be a real benefit in hot weather. A couple of years ago we had to break our tour and stay for a week on a stellplatz in Bavaria when it was 30 - 35ºC every day from about 10.30 am onwards. Without them it would have been impossible to keep the van habitable.
I presume your N+B doesn't have a garage, otherwise no storage problem. Alternatively, can they be stowed in the space between the floors (side lockers) or if all else fails, in the back of the wardrobe? I have heard of people carrying them in the shower room - I can see the point when they are wet and need to drain, but I would not want them in there all the time.

Don't worry about that, we all asked them once

We always use our external screen covers when pitched, except in warmer weather. As said earlier they stop a lot of heat loss.

Hi and thanks for your comments, the question was serious, however the bit about trying it on the way home was tongue firmly in cheek(well it is a funsters site)

We do have a half height garage at the back where the visor is stored, but it takes up a lot of room. However after reading the comments we will def be taking it with us.

I keep mine in a "stuff bag". It takes up no more room than a sleeping bag would.
