Both Mum & Dad are in their mid & late twenties.

Well done Nik & Nat!!

Well done ? At that age ?

Does not seem right to this olde farte. I thought flower power etc was the 1960s. Is "existing" a way of life ? What happens to kid's education and future ? Their future ? Sorry I dropped my rose tinted specs down the chemical disposal point the other day.

Joe will be two in November, and Willow will be four in January...
They are seeing & experiencing things & places that most youngsters never would.
They already know some French words and are learning more every day.
The parents decided to enable their kids to have a real education before starting school, and for themselves to break away from convention, not for any 'hippy' reasons, but to have a life while they can - as opposed to spending their wages on rents/mortgages/millstones ..... which they WERE doing until they thought about their situation.
The littl'uns will both be going to school here when the time comes - At three Willow could go to 'maternelle' now but is learning far more travelling around Europe - she'll be spending a couple of months in Portugal too after Christmas.
;)

Son no. 3, his wife & 2 littl'uns, 11 months & nearly 3 just sold all their possessions, gave notice on their home, bought a 1985 6 berth Ducato based MH, through Ebay, for £3.500.
Drove home 200 miles to west Wales, no probs., had a garage-owning friend look over it & tighten up a few bits and pieces...
They loaded up the essentials & went back up to Derbyshire to visit another son, to say au-revoir.

Then down to Berkshire where they spent a couple of nights on a site.
Then down to Seaford for another night on a site before going to Newhaven for the ferry to Dieppe, then down to us in Basse-Normandie.
After a week camped on the village square they've now moved down to our other place 6k away where they intend to stay till after Christmas. Two days ago they saw two deer in the back field, and last night a wild boar came to sniff around. The littl'uns love it.
They are already beginning to fall in love with the place but are still planning on continuing down to the south, then Spain & Portugal, then down through Italy to Greece etc.
They bought a 150w solar-panel before leaving Wales but didn't have time to fit it before they left - that's all now up & running. They've got a (ancient) catalytic heater as well as a Propex, and we are currently going through the previous owner's diy wiring to get the water pumps working so they can operate the shower.
Both Mum & Dad are in their mid & late twenties.
We certainly won't be 'advising' them against this adventure on a shoe-string.
True grit ;)
Well done Nik & Nat!!
The Best of British to them and travel in happiness! regards AlfandM

That puts a different slant on it, an exciting break rather than for life. Then back to some sort of normality, which will be pretty hard to do.

Life is odd, the old end up with time and money and can no longer fully enjoy it, the young, just the opposite.

When they have seen all they want to see, and done all the things they want to do and if they fancy following convention, they have said they will come back to this area and they may even think of buying a property. But they have their home. They can choose their neighbours... Obviously, when school-time arrives, they will stay in one place, but it's up to them what they choose to live in, be it a cottage, a MH, a yurt, a mansion or a house - all these fulfil the same function: they keep the rain off, give somewhere to sleep & eat in comfort, and enable one to keep warm or cool as needed..... At least here they can choose whichever option they want without most of their income going on mortgage/rent & council tax...

16 years since restarting
Turns out that the ball-joint fail in Worthing was actually not a fail but an advisory. In the panic of the clutch pedal falling to bits he just grabbed the paperwork without looking at it closely - and assumed it was a fail! So, now in Wales, he had to put the van through a new mot. This time there was no mention of the ball-joint but a rear wheel-bearing was 'failed' ... Turns out it just needed tightening slightly. It then passed.

Pretty cool for a £3.5k MH, 31 years old, which had been standing unused for 8 years until last autumn. (y)

Just a query on the above. If it was only an advisory on the first mot then why didn't they get a new certificate ? It hadn't failed then ?
Glad to hear that all is still going well for them & good luck & may it continue.

Ah, turns out that the garage in Worthing had actually 'failed' it on a balljoint, but they didn't have the time to get it fixed there - they had to get to Wales that night. The garage actually said they couldn't fix it for a fortnight (!) ... But the mot place in Wales said that there was nowt wrong with the balljoint, the rubber gaiter was starting to perish.

As all their family and friends are well spread around they tend to keep them all updated via Facebook. ;)
