hi all
i am thinling about getting a 5er but i need to clarify some bits
does anybody know if a 5er need abs if it is over 3500kg

What 5ver are you looking/thinking of. most use the electronic braking system both yank and uk ones.
the ones made in wales by the 5th wheel company use air brakes

It (5er) again falls in the "what exactly is it?" if it is a semi-trailer then yes acording to VOSPA
"Semi-trailers and centre axle drawbar trailers with a design total axle weight of more than 3500kg, require either ABS cat A and/or B".

I cannot see this being interpreted any more clearly than a lot of other regs reguarding 5ers. At the moment they (over 3,500 kg) are not so equiped. I can not see Calder or the 5th wheel co fitting mods to all their units that are over 3,500 kgs.

Don't forget you do need to have a handbrake/parking brake fitted.
