For those of you who are interested in becoming part of the FON scheme of 15,000,000 free WiFi hotpots across Europe, there is an offer of 50% off a new Fonera box.

This makes the box just €19.50 - about £15.30 including delivery.

1.) Visit: https://shop.fon.com/en/products/all

2.) If prompted type 'United Kingdom'

3.) Press 'BUY' next to the Fonera @ €39.00

4.) When prompted, enter the voucher code NEWFONERA50

5.) Checkout, pay and wait for it to be delivered :)

You will also see an item called the 'GramoFon' listed for €49.00. You don't want this product UNLESS you already use Spotify (music player) and know what it is. Basically its the same as FON but also has a 3.5mm socket in the reverse to add some external speakers so you can stream Spotify from your laptop/iPad wirelessly to speakers. It's just to try and get more people interest in FON - I'd leave it alone unless you already use Spotify and think you might benefit from the feature.

Not sure what you're buying or what FON is? Checkout our guide here:

Hope this is of interest to some of you :)
@Addie is the offer code still good? the https is appearing in red with a line struck through it here; which I have not seen before but I assume it means the site is insecure.

Not long enough, but a little common sense helps..........
I used all over France July/August without problem in nearly every village and town. Used with the iBoost system bought from Addie. I have also used it in UK, Germany and here in Spain. I have the fon plug in at home and my neighbours whilst visiting their holiday home use it or pay to use it.
Not sure why, but this time across France I CANNOT connect via iBoost system. I can connect on FON via SFR with just computer, but when using iBoost system I can link into SFR no "login" screen comes up. I have tried everything I know and still does not work. Pity as iBoost is great system, but without this working is worthless.

That's a blow - let us know if you can resolve it. I was ready to order an iBoost after reading this thread!

Left Spain 7th May and have tried each night in France to make iBoost connect to FON via SFR, some nights sitting right on top of the signal............. nothing.............. however just using PC / Macbook / iPhone no problem connects in seconds.
I have followed Addie guide and can connect to SFR with FON and iBoost shows connected, but from there it fails and thats the problem no web page opens - in fact nothing opens. I have tried PC and Macbook and tried Chrome, Explorer and Firefox. It appears that whilst iBoost can and does connect to SFR with FON it fails to open the "login page"
The iBoost is working as I can connect to my mifi and connect to local hotel wifi or campsite wifi. The problem is with the FON system. I'm still very happy with Addie's system, just mad that FON does not work. We are back in UK tomorrow and will try BT with FON and see what happens.

I would say there is nothing out there like the iBoost system and other than the "FON" system not working you will be very pleased with it. I have used it now for over two years and can get connected when others cannot not, in some cases found a signal 2/3kms away and connected and "surfed" at great speeds. If you look at my old posts I have "modded" my system so the iBoost is mounted outside MH which is great when weather is not so nice.

Update: Sitting in Norfolk last night tried connecting to BT with Fon and had not problem. iBoost connected to the free wifi link - then web page opened and filled in my Fon details and connected at 25Mb down and 5Mb up. Very strange that without changing and settings it works with BT and SFR in France. Perhaps when Addie reads this he will come up with answer.

The problem experienced with SFR Fon may be due to the fact that their login page will not come up if you are attempting to connect to an https:// address. I encountered this issue some time ago, as my browser is configured to open with the Google search page, which is https://... Attempting instead to go to an http:// address normally brings up the SFR/Fon login page (subject to the SFR Fon router being connected to the Internet).

This is a possible fix @Don Quixote - I'll be updating a load of guides after the NEC show.

There has been some browser updates over the last 12 months with an emphasis on SSL (https) for all websites.

Better still, if you can get connected directly and bookmark the captive portal page to load via the iBoost. I *think* it's something like hotspot.wifi.sfr.fr for SFR/FON.

The issue is in the DNS re-direct, your computer is essentially being fooled into loading the FON page instead of Google etc, hence sometimes the conflict.

HTH.
