Talk about Monty Python! We trundled off to Southport last weekend, in our 'new/old' Hymer, which came complete with a speedo calculated to show only kilometres, and not MPH. So the conversation went like this....
Me."Bl**dy Hell, a camera. I'm doing 60, whats that"?
She. "60 is 40.....I think.....This is a 30 zone, you should be doing 50"

Hard braking

Me. "Hang on, its 50 now, whats that"?
Her." 50 is 80.......I think"
Me. "You sure"?

And so on. All the way there, and back. Just ordered an MPH overlay from Fleabay. The 20 quid it cost has got to be worth some sanity!

What on Earth are you doing on here if you're seeking sanity? :Rofl1:

To Change Kms To Mph Use This Calculation...

The Speed you Are Doing In Kms Simply...

Divide By 8 Then Multiply The Answer By 5...

(ie) 80kms divided by 8 will equal 10

10 Multiplied By 5 Will Equal 50..

SIMPLES
The reverse applies for Miles to Kms..(ie) divide by 5 multiply by 8

I fitted an MPH overlay on my Hymer, quite easy to do, make sure you read the instructions.
The needle doesn't always sit on zero exactly so make sure it goes back on exactly as it was, i took a picture of it with my phone before i started.

Dont rely on the speed it shows too much. Mine is set to Km's in France, a few times I've driven at just below 50 kmh through villages, as the sat nav says, only to see an end of 30kmh zone sign ahead! opp5

and by the time you've done all that the camera has clocked you, the NIP has been received and you've paid the penalty.

a few light tippex marks on the clock would do.

one at 20, 30, 40, 50 ,60 and 70.

Not legal any more, I'm afraid. As from 2012, you can fail an MOT if your speedo readings are not illuminated by the dash lights.

when i was in the forces in germany,BAOR driving right hand vehicles the speedo in mph, the speed on the road sign indicated 50km/hr we used to times the 1st number by 6 ..... ie, 50km/hr =5x6=30mph, 70km/hr=7x6=42mph. speed worked out in seconds. and can quickly be reversed and the mph divided by 6 to give km/hr..
