Hi all,
As from 31st July Edinburgh is introducing a 20 mph speed limit throughout the city.
MAIN roads are not affected for the time being. Trials have been done over the past few months. Usual £100 and 3 points, so beware extra cameras in place.

not long enough
Scottish drivers do seem to ignore the 30 limit more than we down here, I go to Edinburgh on business 4 times a year and am amazed at the speed I am overtaken at inside 30mph zones, got to be a good idea, even if it only brings down the average speed

Hey that would be good for the towns around East Lancashire and West Yorkshire where we cut and run from------ double the present speed

20mph would be about 15mph faster than we came through on Monday. So in my view it would be great.

We've had a 20 limit on most residential roads in Middlesbrough for a year or two now. Most people comply but there are still plenty who don't and it does rely on self-regulation/self-discipline as it would be far too expensive to install cameras or other measures to "catch" people.
A good idea overall though.

@GJH there is a 20mph section on the outskirts of Barnsley with a fixed camera installed

if done for revenue it must make sense to fit cameras on these roads

I think 20 really is plenty to quote the signs we have locally, as a pedestrian a car going by at what might be 30mph seems scarily fast

Probably needed in lawless Barnsley :D
