just done a run test on a fully charged 100ah battery,if i run 600watts through the inverter ,the drain on the battery is by my calc's 600/12=50 amps, my unit will happly run that with no power loss on the battery in fact it will continue to charge the battery
its not happy running a 1000watt's the inverter is but my unit is not. the next one i build will run 1500 watts no problem, now that iv proved to myself it works:thumb:

i could just run a genny and not bother with my unit, but if i was to pull 50amps out the battery, it would take a kipor 2600 genny chargeing at 8.3ah 6.2 hours to replace it.:shout:
cant comment on solar as i aint study'd them.(perhaps one of you could)
a 2600 kipor weight is 26kg dry thats 57.2lb,my unit is half that:thumb:
now iv got to pull it all to bit's to get the main body of it powder coated
and think about starting mk 2

To get 50amps from solar in midday sunlight would require a panel rated at around 1000watts which would be about 5sq metres, so if you had a largish RV and completely covered the roof with panels you might do it. Don't forget you offered to sell me the first 'unit'

5 sq mtrs of solar is hardly portable ::bigsmile: Don't forget (if I remember right) IT IS GOING TO BE HELD IN ONE HAND carried across a footy field by his wife :thumb: weigh less than a small genny,:thumb: bang enough power into a flat battery in 5 to 10 mins so it can start an engine and get power from god knows where ::bigsmile: The only thing ruled out so far is from another battery :winky:

It's just a big plastic box filled with Coulomb Pixies.
tonight while sat in the workshop i solved a problem of power and by doubleing the power drive unit i could reach the target of 150ah.
this short youtube clip shows the power drive side:thumb:

Who is your Hampster supplier or is that a trade secret? I was wondering if they are any ETF's I could trade in for Hampsters as this discovery could lead to a shortage. Hampster = finite resource.

but i dont want everybody on the forum knowing,as this will as you say, lead to a shortage,im getting through about twenty hampsters a week running my unit at full chat.
but i have found another use for all the dead hampsters:thumb:

Maybe you need to look into hybrid fuel sources; a rat for the initial high-torque starting phase then a hamster for the constant cruising power.
Many other power sources are available.
Could your wife carry a donkey?

pics of my unit.

firstly the stats
engine----honda
fuel----petrol
cc----50
output------up to 70amp/h
weight-----13-5kg
cost----less than £100
running time---1lt=2hours
noise level====noisey lol--a little louder than my ex650
output------14.8v

point of building it, is so that i can recharge batteries faster than my genny.
i have a honda ex650 genny and the weight of that is 25kg this complete is 13.5kg.and its smaller:thumb:

I'm a bit underwhelmed , I was looking forward to something a bit more revolutionary ..

someone on the darkside has done similar ..

Inspired by a thread on a German forum , I decided to have a go at building a 12V petrol engine powered generator when I saw a suitable Honda engine on sale for below half price.

The basic setup is very simple:
- a small petrol engine (normally used in strimmers)
- linked to a brushless motor as used in RC models; these work as generators when driven
- a 3 phase rectifier
- I added a voltmeter, but that is not strictly necessary

can't give the link .. but google "DIY 12V generator/charger" should find it

and how many amps does that push out 1 amp if lucky on a screeming 2 stroke, its not the same might be 12v but not the same.not even similar.
and it was you lot that ran off with the idea not me:thumb:
i said it simple,i said its cheap,i said its been done before, but not in this configeration,i said it could push out 150amp/h that it cant do as the alternator is 70a/h max,i said it will charge a battery faster than a genny it does.
