one battles with brain injury after a car accident 4 years ago, so we bought a motor home last year because we can't go into noisy places. We have not gone anywhere in it yet. We are looking to some fun, but are nervous where we can go and where we're allowed to park if not on a site.

We read we need certain water hoses etc., and would like to make sure we have everything we need apart from the obvious.

If you want quiet then bite the bullet and head over here to France.
Initially put a watering can in the van, this will cope with every situation until you form your own opinion as to what is best.

Oh and welcome

THANK YOU ALL, SO MUCH for your welcome. If we meet a lot of people that will give us some advise that will make it fun and take some of our concerns.

:ello:w2f Give south west Scotland a try, plenty of area's to wild camp that are very peaceful. Castle Douglas is very pleasant. These places aren't terribly far away from your area.
Have a look at CLs instead of sites, maximum of 5 motorhomes or caravans & normally really peaceful.

Lots of friendly, helpful people on here, but be warned the big rallies can be noisy.
We bought lots of stuff (including a hose) when we got out van after retirement, most has been sold on or is cluttering up the garage.
We find a watering can more useful than a hose, just make sure the can fits into the water filler on the van changed van, now have 2 cans lol
would help to know type of van you have too, but please, get out and use it, they are an expensive ornament, the first time may be daunting, but it is a great lifestyle. Small 5 van sites should be quiet, unless there is a 4 van family meet up.
Sit and think about what you would need for a couple of days, food, drink, water, bedding cutlery, pots pand kettle. Use stuff from home then you wont have bought anything until you know if it will be needed, buy extra later. Places like Range B&M poundshops, are an inexpensive way to get equipment, often the same as sold in 'camping' shops for much more money.

:welco: A watering can is a good idea, buy a new one so it hasn't got traces of weedkiller or whatever in it and make sure you can fill your tank with it. Often the nozzle isn't right, I have extended mine with a bit of blue hose.
A hose of some sort would be useful if only for the initial fill, as it will take ages with a watering can.

If you plan to use sites a 25m hookup cable is very useful, some might say essential.

If you want peace and quiet, funster rallies might not be great. You will meet a lot of knowledgeable people, but many have been known to break out in karaoke when very drunk and some even play the ukelele :Eeek:

There is tons of information on every subject on this site, just use the search feature.

Why not try just one night away somewhere reasonably close to you for your first trip? Maybe in a site so that you have back up shower and loo. Outside of school holidays most are fairly peaceful, especially if you avoid the ones with bars and loads of facilities. As long as you can make a cup of tea, cook your supper and open the beer/wine not too much can go wrong and you'll soon get more confident. Good luck x

From your location in Cheshire, there are lots of handy quiet and remote places in Mid-Wales.

Oh, and another vote for a plastic watering can for topping up. (y)

Hope you enjoy your new van

Use it! Being stationary doesn't suit a motorhome :D
Start off with a daytime only jaunt to anywhere.
Experiment and you'll find out what questions need answering.

You haven't said how big your MH is. If anything like ours or our previous, no room for a watering can. We use a 5 litre food grade container. It lives inside when not on tank filling duty and we use it for fresh drinking water every day.
I would second CL (Caravan and Motorhome Club camping locations) or the equivalent from the Caravan and Camping Club. Only 5 outfits at a time and usually very quiet but with someone around to help if you need it.
It is difficult in the UK to stay on riversides and canal sides as you can in Europe. You could try Britstops as there are some quiet locations but many are pubs so not quiet until late.
Do get out and use it, it's the best way.

You would have to be very unlucky to ask for help from a fellow camper and be refused. Just go up and ask. As you can probably tell from this forum, we just love to pass on the benefit of our experience and even loan things if necessary.

Hello and welcome to the Fun :hiya:

Completely agree with these two:
Why not try just one night away somewhere reasonably close to you for your first trip? Maybe in a site so that you have back up shower and loo.
You would have to be very unlucky to ask for help from a fellow camper and be refused. Just go up and ask. As you can probably tell from this forum, we just love to pass on the benefit of our experience and even loan things if necessary.
... and then if you have any problems that you can't get resolved, just ask on here. Somebody will usually be along with the answer very quickly! (Then once it's sorted, we can start taking the Mickey  )

I was also nervous of driving a motorhome on my own but just went for it. Loved it so much I full timed for a while.
From Cheshire you have easy access into Wales. Lots of nice quiet sites. Search for Cwmcuttan online. Small site, easy access and very peaceful.
Shropshire is another option or up to Scotland.
If you look online there are lots of adults only sites, which you might find are quieter.
Good luck--- I'm sure you'll really enjoy the freedom.

Hello and welcome, the watering can sounds daft, but it's not, really handy. Don't be afraid to ask and do go, soon.

No not an Aire. As @ambulancekidd said they are a max of 5 unit sites, Certified Locations, run under the auspices of the Caravan and Motorhome Club but privately owned. Certified Sites are similar under the Camping and Caravan Club banner.

Many on Fun are members of the main clubs simply for the CS or CL opportunities and also THS's, Temporary Holiday Sites which can be very cheap whereas some of the 5 unit sites appear to be getting more expensive as many have said on Fun.

Just go for it and don't be afraid to ask a neighbour for help. We have all got it wrong and / or forgotten something but there will always be somebody nearby or on here to help. Enjoy.

PS the only daft question is the one you did not ask :).
