when hooked up, all electrical appliances work fine. When disconnected and travelling, radio / CD player will not function at all - leisure battery drains as it runs the fridge. All help greatly appreciated.
Regards to all, John

Not an expert on this but is the supply from the alternator to the leisure battery charger live when the vehicle is running? Sounds like the lb is not being charged when running; lose wire? Fuse? Switch? Duff charger? Duff battery?

No idea why the radio does not play when not connected to mains.

Hi and thanks for quick response.
It is annoying because we are on our travels - a great time for things to go wrong !
Thanks, John

One of the electrical experts will be along shortly with some useful info if you let us know what model van you have and a little about it's history. Sounds like your split charge relay might have failed, but your fridge shouldn't be wired direct to your leisure battery regardless. :(

Strange one this.
Your fridge should only run when engine is running and is switched usually thru a relay.
Likewise your LB's should charge thru a split charge relay when engine is running.
Both circuits should be separate.
Is it a factory built ? Or is it a PVC?
Someone may have done a repair at some point by wiring the fridge to the split charge relay, this shouldn't be done as the fridge can draw current then from the LB's then..... not good.
The radio should not have any connection to the LB's.(assuming it's the dash radio)

Need more info I'm afraid.
Vehicle type/year/conversion or not?

maybe, maybe not, it all depends why the battery was knackered, bad charging or old age. You now need to subscribe to post again.

Keep you eye on your new battery, if the fault was caused by the fridge drawing power from the LB, there could still be the problem. On the bright side, I am guessing that you have had this checked out when the battery was changed. Have a good trip from here on.....
