Does anyone have a recommendation for replacement Fiat ignition key, just the plain key, not the box with buttons, along with the process involved?

I've looked online and can not see any prices which makes me decidedly nervous! Also concerned about sending off my 'key codes' (if that is indeed what is required) and the address to my motorhome to an unknown website !

I'm also not to sure how motorhome / car keys work. I thought that the when you pushed the buttons, the alarm and immobiliser were turned off, but the motorhome came with one 'box button' key and one plain key. Both work and obviously the plain key doesn't have any buttons to turn anything off.

Is there perhaps something like an RFID chip in the key to do this?

My insurance company told me that all vehicles produced after a certain date are fitted with an immobiliser, so they tick YES to that question.

Getting better month by month.
Key "boxes" with the "buttons" on them are for remote only. The plain key will still have the "Fiat Code" chip inside to disable the ignition side of the system.

The NFC chip is to enable the ignition.

If it is a replacement you need rather than an extra key a much cheaper option is to obtain a plain key then swap the chip over. See below:

The chips are quite robust & will slide into a 3mm hole drilled in the plastic of the new key.

If it's just a plain non-remote key then they aren't that expensive from Fiat Commercial. They'll be able to code it for you as long as you take your van in to them.

I bought a couple of new remote keys from them after a key theft and even they weren't eye watering.

I used the AA's specialist locksmiths for the coding because I couldn't move my van and Fiat don't offer an on site service.

The dealer is quoting £250 for the key including coding & labour, AA don't do fiat keys !

I can't remember how much I paid Fiat for supply only of my two remote keys, I think it was £300 and something including the VAT. The AA charge a flat rate of £100 to come out sort the coding. I'm sure Fiat quoted me about £50 or £60 for a plain key so they're more expensive for the coding job which is to be expected from a main dealer.

The AA happily did mine for me (y) They were about the only option I had because nobody else that I could find offers a mobile service.

They didn't supply the keys but the coding was no problem. If you ever need to use them in the future it's worth asking when you book for them to make sure the engineer has the dealer software on his van rather than just the generic one. Fiat seem to use some random strange ECU units that the generic software packages struggle with.

Timpsons can do them, last time I asked it was £55, you will need to take the van to them. That rules out town centre ones, around here there are a few that have a hut outside big supermarkets, Tesco & Sainburys.

I used ac auto locksmiths
http://acautolocksmiths.co.uk
http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/ac-auto-locksmiths?_trksid=p2047675.l2559

He's not local to us so we combined it with a trip away. Arranged a time to meet at his house and new remote key in about 20 mins.

£80 for new key and £175 for new remote key. He'll do a second additional key for a reduced price. He also provided me with the key code which I didn't have.
Fantastic, me just quoted me £70, need to sort out the where ..... not to bad as he is Leeds which is only an hour from us

Our local Timpsons said their machine would not fit Fiat keys ?

Good result but why do you need so many keys?
The van came with two, one with buttons (not needed and bulkey to carry) and one with out buttons.

We plan to carry one each and have one spare, so looking for a total of three 'Yale type' keys. Hence a need for two new ones.

I have put a spare in a magnetic key safe (£4) and connected it into a box section under the van. The magnet is really strong but I 've taped up in front of it to stop it falling out of the shelf it is sitting on just in case.
In fact what I've done is put the spare gas locker key in the key safe ( which has no electronics) and taped the spare ignition key inside the gas locker, well hidden!
