Tag axles don't usually have a large towing capacity (in fact they're usually lower than most motorhomes) so you may need to run 'light' in order to be able to tow anything.

I was told by SVTech that they could not update my train weight. The van (as avatar) was originally 5 tonnes MTPLM and has been uprated (by SVTech) to 5.5 tonnes. The gross train weight is 6 tonnes, leaving only 500 kg for a trailer.

You can tow more than the difference between the MGW and the train weight provided that you are running at less than the MGW.

Payload and towing capacity are two different things.

However, the less weight you carry the greater the weight you can tow (provided that you stay within your train weight).

What is marked on your vehicle weight plate and do you know your typical running weight?

@Sloany198 thanks do you know the weight of the two combined?
My trailer is an Ifor Williams CT115 which has a GW of 1400kg and an UL Wt of 350kg. The Up is bout 930kg depending upon precise spec - ours is a Move Up so pretty basic but with air con. We are well inside our gross train weight of 6T. Hope this helps.

You must be more organised than me on what you carry about with you. Have put mine on a weighbridge a couple of times and always seem to be near the 5 ton mark leaving me only a ton to play with. Must have a sort out before I get a tow car.

Wow, our last trip across the weighbridge came in at 4320kg for the van and the two of us so we have plenty to spare. We don't carry a vast amount with us and usually buy our supplies locally. Unfortunately we are not able to get away for more than a couple of weeks at a time so that may help.
