My 2015 Fiat Ducato 2.3 is due for its first service in March, it includes a brake fluid change in the cost. I have been quoted £459.00. Is this a reasonable cost, also do i have to use a Fiat approved garage? I know i can get it done locally for less but would that affect the warranty with Fiat? Thanks for any advice. Chas

Unless you've done a high mileage I don't think you need to have it done until its 2 years old and or reached 30,000 miles ... certainly that's the case for the X250.

I had mine serviced at Ford & Slater (Fiat Professional and Iveco) as this meant I got an extra years warranty. So was worth the (few) extra quid.

The cost you quote is about what I paid at the Fiat dealer in Plymouth. As mentioned you can go elsewhere but I chose not too while it was under warranty. If you go to an independent ensure they know how to check for any recall (non-urgent) work there may be. Mine seemed to have something changed on each of its dealer services. The work required might include software changes too.
My argument was given the cost of the vehicle new I wasn't bothered about trying to save a hundred pounds or so on servicing while under warranty and I had it serviced annually too, though it wasn't a full service in the "odd" years. However, my next service, at the 4 year point, will probably go to an independent.

It is advised to have brake fluid changed at two years, though I didn't with ours. An oil and filter change would be good and a general check over of brakes etc.
£459 does appear quite steep. We use our nearest Fiat Professional (Commercial Vehicle) dealer and only paid £130 at its two year service.
Normal car dealers may not have the correct lifting equipment for motorhomes.
We found this out with our last Motorhome, the dealer said of course we can do the service/ mot, then we discovered they sent it to the local van centre and acted as the middle man adding a bit for themselves.
Our Fiat Professional service centre is further away but worth the effort.
You don't have to have it serviced by a Fiat service centre/dealer to maintain the warranty, so long as it done to Fiats requirements, using approved parts.

Brake fluid - On a modern vehicle you are not going to have an aluminium reservoir caked in corrosion unlike in the good ole days.

I always get my local MOT garage to check the brake fluid with a meter (both cars and MHs). If it passes and is not discoloured it doesn't get changed. On one of my cars it indicated it should be changed on year 5 unlike the BMW 2 year service schedule. They also check the coolant/antifreeze at the same time (y)

Just this very minute been quoted £408 for my first service. That equates to £204/year, not bad methinks although I could shop around but want some Fiat warranty work done at the same time.

Thanks for all the replies, i take the point made about software changes etc and i think that tips it to go with the quote as it is still under warranty. Again i thank.:)

Ours is 2014 (so I assume an x250) and that is 2 years, as was our previous 2011 model. Personally, I'd rather have the oil changed annually at a annual check over/service, using a non fully synthetic, which would be wasted.
Ours will be three years old this year so it'll be having service/mot annually at my local Fiat Professional dealer.

Sorry if I got that wrong. Our previous X250 (2008 model) was yearly so I assumed that applied to all X250s.

Yes, our previous van, a 2010 X250 was officially 'every two years' for a service, same as our new X290.

With the old van I waited two years for the first service, but because we were doing a lot of overseas mileage I decided to get our local Fiat dealer to do low mileage services alternating with the full ones - so it got some sort of attention every year from then on.

Started 2007.
Are you sure it is a X250 rather than the X290 that started in 2015? If it is the X250 then it is yearly. If X290 it is every 2 years or 20,000 miles whichever comes first.
Hi peterc10, The chassis number starts with ZFA250 so presumed its a X250. Will check with Fiat anyway, thanks.

That is what I thought at first, but it is not correct. Mine too starts with 250, but it is an X290 series. In fact Fiat themselves have confirmed to me that it is an X295, which I think that is the A class equivalent to the X290. Mine was first registered in November 2015 and had been in the dealer's stock since early 2015. Therefore any motorhome registered in May 2016 should be an X290, unless it has been hanging around in the dealer's stock for a long while, or the chassis had been sitting in the converters for an even longer time.

Hi All,
My Fiat X250 was registered 31/05/2016, so is the 1st service after two years with no interim servicing at all?

If its the one in your avatar then you have an X290 ... I seem to recall that some early X290 models have vin numbers starting X250 ... regardless its every 2 years or approx 27,000 miles.

I just had a quote and yes its an arm and a leg for a van with only 7000 miles.
My local agent says it only requires a service after 2 years, but the Fiat dealer would have you believe you need one for the warranty, rubbish !

I think that only applies to UK conversions.
My service book states 45000km (28000 mile) no yearly restriction.
Mine is a Globecar and says 2 years.

Did they give you that automatically or did you have to ask ?

UK conversions have a 3 year warranty the 3rd year is and insurance/dealer backed hence they insist on servicing to fund it. Imported vehicles including ones sold through official channels have the standard European 2 year warranty.

We too have a 2015 X290. We opted for a first year oil and filter change at a Fiat Professional dealer. It was just over £100. I asked about the cost of first service after two years and was quoted something like £400-450.
