I'm trying to get some quotes for our new motorhome we pick up next week but I'm getting a figure of £570 from one company then £1251 from another. How can this be and which one is having a laugh. Help as I need to get this sorted asap.

Try comfort insurance, i found all the others way too expensive for my new motorhome when it was 2 years ago, they quoted just over £300 for a value of £68k on the motorhome. It needed a tracker or cat 1 thatcham alarm which it already had but the closest to this quote was way over £600. Shop around and you will get there. The renewal this year is again just over £300 so nothing changed really, i dont have breakdown cover as this is sorted elsewhere but this would only put another £70 approx on top. They use Aviva just for reference.

I was going to say "Go for it" both prices seem good for a new motor home, but was worried the £570 one
wouldn't come with curtains

I suppose a lot depends on your chosen van, your age, location etc.

We have had our van for almost 4 years now and have never paid more than £300 for insurance. I renewed with Scenic a couple of weeks ago - their renewal premium was a whisker over £260 including European breakdown cover. I thought that was pretty cheap so didn't bother shopping around.

I would suggest that unless you have asked for a huge annual milage, or you have 9 penalty points, or you are over 100 years of age (or under 17), or you intend fulltiming, or the moho is worth over £80,000, or you intend visiting third world countries (except of course the UK) then ......

........ Both of them are extracting the yellow bodily fluid!

Hi. Thanks for the advice. I will try Comfort for a quote. I'll let you know the results.

This is as good a place to start as any - gives you an idea of the going rates.

https://www.gocompare-caravan.com/ProductSelect.aspx?r=false&brand=Site

Don't over-estimate your likely mileage though, asking for unlimited when you only need 10-15k is a waste.
Thanks for the advice. I tried go compare who came back with one quote of over £1200 too.
It's very hard though when they ask mileage when you never had a motorhome to know how much or how far we will use it.:(

We will be in the same boat, but I just made a list of the places we are likely to go, worked out the mileage and worked with that. If it turns out to be more you can top it up at any stage later. You can't get it back if you estimate too high though!

Hi Bobby 22. Yes I have done. That's who quoted me £570 so they are the best so far. Most won't even quote me on line. I've requested a couple of call backs last night for today so I'll see what occurs today.

Hi

We just bought a new van, I was shocked at the increase in premiums and the restrictions placed by my previous insurers SAGA and went elsewhere. Comfort quoted me £288 including continental breakdown on a £48k van, one other wanted £1250 caravan guard and saga etc were all around £500!

I had to change storage from a local farm in a locked barn, not considered safe enough by any of the companies, to a cassoa site, but worth it to save so much money. The cassoa site is a little further away but same cost as the farm so no extra cost for the secure storage required to get reduced premium.

Note that the £1250 was from a broker often quoted here and included the cassoa site reduction! Plus 12 years ncd!

I highly recommend comfort! But look around is the answer in my case!

Quick up date. Safe Guard rang me to see if they could do a better deal, & indeed they did. I now have a quote for £480 plus lots of bolt on goodies so I'm a happy bunny.
