Emmits? I think is another term. Up here we have a specialised form known locally as "twirleys" or "Comfits". Primarily current or former residents of WEST Yorkshire!:D:D:D

have they changed the criteria for the dartford crossing now then? it was free only if the road fund licence/tax disc was marked as disabled..

edit..have just checked on the dartford crossing site, it says..

You’ll still have to pay if:

  • you have a Blue Badge but aren’t exempt from paying vehicle tax
  • you travel in a vehicle that isn’t exempt
You don’t need to do anything to get the exemption. Your vehicle details will be checked with DVLA when crossings are made in your vehicle.

https://www.gov.uk/dartford-crossing-fees-exemptions-penalties
not all blue badhe holders do get free road tax only higher rate disabled folk.

Not really. It is a blanket policy that is easy to administer. In order to make it equal you would have to have levels of blue badge that gave each disabled person exactly which advantages they needed to overcome their specific mobility issues. That would be too burdensome to administer though.

(and beside who really wants another tier of bureaucrats sat on their fat arses, to "manage"?):D:whistle::whistle::whistle::whistle:

When booking a ferry, tell them you are a blue badge holder & they will park you as near to the lifts as possible.

The "Blue Badge" is for the use of the disabled person ONLY. Technically it is not allowed if the person to whom it is issued does not exit the vehicle!.
Your totally wrong here Peter, the person to whom it is issued does not need to exit the vehicle.
One can use the 'badge' when going to pick up the person that has been issued with it.
They need not have exited that vehicle at all.

Abuse of blue badges is wrong and if every one stuck to the rules it would be a better world.

PS there are some differing rules in Scotland but the supplied book should state all the rules.

Free Dartford crossing too.
Nope - not on Blue Badge alone.

You need to be in a vehicle that is Tax Exempt by virtue of being used for transport of a disabled person.

EDIT: - oops - should have read the rest of the thread first - already been said.

For able bodied people like you or I we have the option of walking perhaps from a free car park or an area where it's free to park. A disabled person may not be able to walk those distances so are forced to pay if parking is not made free and available to them.

In short giving free parking to those who are less abled makes it equal ..
Excuse me how do you know i am able bodied? Be lucky to find free parking anywhere near me. Don't think 50p to park will break the bank anyway. BUSBY:):):)

Hes not Bobby. I can see where both of you are coming from. Yes its a misuse to stop and go into bank etc if the disabled passenger is in car. Its also allowed that you can stop and "Pick up/Drop off" a disabled passenger using their badge. Read the link I posted earlier in thread.

Sandra, my daughter ( in her own car) can drop my father off at the hospital......she then returns gives me the badge and i go use a disabled space and go in to collect him......so my father has never exited my vehicle.
The info is for the op so wrong information is confusing.

Disabled people should pay for parking like everyone else.... Disability rights organisations rant on about having the same opportunities as able bodied people but when it comes to paying they don't mind being different then..!

For your info, proper disabled people get mobility allowance and they get it whether working or not so its not to do with low income...

The one that gets me is that old age is a disability...! And I mean the ones that think that just because their old they can park in a disabled bay....

Trust me.... After nearly 40yrs in a wheelchair with no legs I've heard it all......

All this PC crap piss's me off sometimes...

Keep smiling as there's always someone worse of then you......(y)

He has, you just said so and the badge allows this...Stupid I know and for what my tuppence is worth I also agree disabled people should pay... Nothing short of a farce..I wouldn't wish disability on anyone, its must be awful but the money they receive in benefits they can well afford it...More than the Joe Blogg on minimum wage.

As for Cornwall. what happens with Visitor cars then?. Do all the "Grockles" have to spend half a day of their holidays registering?

The answer is 'Yes'. If you know you are going to Cornwall you can register your tax exempt vehicle before you go. Other councils are quite happy for their officers to check the registration number with DVLA. We checked with several different counties when they first introduced the scheme but I think it is only Cornwall that wants you on their data base.
Most councils we have visited expect non exempt vehicles to pay.

assumed you were able bodied because you criticised free parking for the disabled .

It makes no odds to me.. It is just my opinion as to why they perhaps deem to assist those with disabilities.

I can walk fine do I can if I choose to do so dodge paying parking fees . Disabled people may not have the ability and therefore the option so free parking in my humble opinion should and it seems is in place.

My wife has a Blue Badge. We would have no objection to paying to park but NOT ALL DISABLED FOLK RECEIVE BENEFITS as you assume.

Hi Eddie, it will mean you can use disabled parking bays but will depend on where you park as to whether the car parking rules still make a charge for disabled badge holders or not.

I know your Smart is tax zero tax but that's not the same as tax exempt - will you be getting the 'tax exemption' BB or not? If the former you 'might' be better applying the BB to another vehicle so you won't pay tax on it, but can still, AFAIK, use it with any other vehicle so long as you are in it.

Don't follow to be honest. I just asked when applying for PIP and they said as I had applied I can now apply for blue badge? :(
