I pull off the motorway and travel down an A road and pull into a layby ... one that is not right next to the road... Sorry cannot be specific ... ANY layby is usually safe if lorries are in there and if you have a gap or bushes between you and the road it can be quite peaceful.

How about seeing if the CC site in Bristol has space. Its right in the centre so nice for a city visit.

Try Tudor site at Slimbridge, behind a pub and next to the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal, off the A38. Toby Trux

If you come off the M5 at Junction 19, by Gordano Services, take the A369 towards Bristol (next exit on the roundabout after the services) and in 250 yards turn right at traffic lights into High Street (Portbury). Parking 50 yards on left. Usually quite busy during the day, but should be fine for 11pm arrival. See Google map.

Shouldn't be much traffic along High Street at night - it's a minor narrow road, but quite a rat-run during the day - so best if you can stop towards that end of the parking, away from the A369, but anywhere should be OK.
