French Campsites open late October (1 Viewer)

Hi,
We will be travelling back from Spain in late October and wondered if anyone has a recommendation for campsites that are open in that month please.

Our route is probably up the coast from Biarritz towards Bordeaux and then towards Angers before heading back into Normandy and Calais.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Thanks for the advice. I had not realized about ACSI and searching by date. That is helpful
Funnymuney are there some good aires that you might recommend please? It will be helpful to have access to water on the way back.

May be a little off your route, we were heading for Caen. We had a weekend stopover at a campsite in Nantes last year. The reception sold a ticket for 7 euros I think for 24 hours travel on the tram, which stops at the site entrance, buses and the riverboats for four adults. The Jules Verne museum is well worth a visit.

On the route you pass (or nearly) a couple of excellent routiers, free parking usually showers at 1 or 2 euros food excellent
Cauneille Broken Link Removed family run breakfast from 0500 hrs
Relais de Castets Broken Link Removed large parking entre a la volante (much as you want/ visit counter as many times as you wish. same with wines on tap generic but not bad)
Bordeaux Broken Link Removed huge parking and food is a wow open also saturday and Sunday lunches

Have a look on http://www.relais-routiers.com/ do not imagine they are anything like the "greasy spoons" in the UK. Many are excellent, most are at least very good, but some are poor (by French standards)

Except VERY few parking is free, noise is very limited as these chappies normally do not party much as they have early starts only thing missing is elecy and contrary to what you may have heard they are safe.

On the way down this spring we found a nice one at Nersac just south of Angouleme. Free parking and water waste etc. Even has free electrics. Nice little village with good bakery and patisserie.

On the way back we stopped at another one just north of Angouleme at Verteuil sur Charente. Beautiful village on a nice river. Still has a working water mill. Also a beautiful looking little Chateau. Again free water waste etc. We will use that one again we think.

Also further up north of Rouen is a nice commercial Aire at Neufchattel en Bray. 12 Euros per night but includes water waste electricity and wifi. If you are not sure about Aires this is a good one to start with as it seems almost like a campsite. Not surprising since it is owned by the same person as owns the campsite next door.

Mortagne Sur Gironde:
The Aire can be seen on the right of the yacht basin.
It's about €7.50 a night incl electricity and water.

As the name suggests, it's on the Gironde Estuary between Bordeaux and Royan. Highly recommended

ACSI site think we paid 17 euros though so not sure how that works

Includes Wifi for first 2 nights which is odd as well, you would think they would reward longer stayers
