we recently did our big maiden voyage in our new to us 2000 autotrail cheiftan.however after putting noise insulation between every cup ,plate and saucer, we found rattles galore coming from the old truma gas /elec heater.i woul like to remove it and put some alternative heating in the mh.it would also free up some cupboard space.any suggestions /ideas.
thanks in advance.

Those Truma heaters work amazingly well. If you remove the front you'll find out why it rattles & how to stop it. At the rear, usually under the wardrobe base, you'll find the fan unit. Remove it & clean out the fan with a paintbrush & vacuum cleaner. Once working properly they are a more than adequate form of heating. They are part of the current range (although front trim has changed over the years the innards haven't).

More expensive Truma heaters as fitted to a lot of modern MHs are readily available & most popular seem to be the type that combine HW and blown air. You're looking at big money for little gain though. (£550+ for heating only and two or three times that for heating & HW)

Plenty alternatives available but at a cost, firstly using gas you could use something like one of the Propex heatsource blown air heaters several models available including at least one with 240 mains heating built in, or you could go for one of the many diesel blown air heaters such as Webasto, Eberspacher, Mikuni, MV Airo etc
a few here http://www.grassroutesleisure.co.uk/categories/53/hot-air-heaters any of these will easily fit in the space of the Truma gas fire leaving loads of space and you could probably make use of the existing blown air ducting already there.
As an aside we found that most of the noises we got from the Truma was in fact caused by the top vent vanes rubbing against the heat exchanger when the floor flexed might be worth looking at those first before parting with £500 upwards

I rolled up some aluminium foil and wedged several pieces between the element and anything it was touching and that seemed to work.
