I will be arriving in Plymouth from Roscoff quite late. Can anyone recommend an overnight stop, preferably on or not too far from the road to Tavistock.

There are a couple off wild spots tucked away depends on what you require ,and how late .
on the far side of the old airfield at Yelverton is a popular spot for some with pubs nearby and on route to tavy :)

You could say Brittany ferries car park. Just come back onto the departure parking and tuck yourself away at theside so you will not trouble people arriving for the boat. (y)

Sounds ideal. Do you have satnav co-ordinates by any chance. My version of Autoroute does not show the old airfield.

Thanks. On this occassion I would prefer somewhere in the country and jollyrodger has told me about a location which will be ideal for me.

There is a large layby set back off the road on the right hand side just before you get to Tavistock but there is likely to be traffic noise.

I assume you are referring to the North side of the old airfield. I had a drive around the South side very late one night and 'she who must be obeyed' asked me to keep driving:(

Stopped at a brilliant location right on the edge of Plymouth overlooking Plymouth sound. Its a large car park on Jenny Cliff lane with very clean public toilets locked overnight and a cafe on the opposite side of the road for a cheap and cheerful breakfast. Great location.
