First trip to Europe and planning to spend a few days in Florence and a week or so in Lake Garda. Can anyone recommend any campsites in these two locations.

Just north of Malcesine , northern Lake Garda..

Perfectly situated for exploring the area...pitches are only demarcated by olive trees and can be tricky to get into for larger vans. Very busy in August..

Overlooking Florence...great views of the city particularly at night , average pitches , expensive , good bus service into Florence.

Thanks for the information on sites we are going to be in Italy in April/May 2015 so hopefully sites shouldn't be too busy.

Fornella. Make sure you book one of the new pitches. They cost more but are fantastic. Huge pitches among olive trees.

We always try and get the older super pitches that are behind car park, as we go July/august and it's much quieter area with plenty of shade. Last year booked late and where on comfort pitch but it was not as peaceful...very busy!

This area getting smaller year on year as they add more chalets. Must say with the opening of expanded olive grove area the campsite has lost some of its atmosphere as its got a bit busy. We love it though and this will be our 10th year on the trot... always go there as part of summer tour to chill :)

Furthermore.....

nice restaurants in the village San Felice del Benaco. we like Baia Del Vento about 20 min? walk as you turn right out of campsite. there is another very good and popular restaurant on a campsite on the other side of Fornella called ideal Molina, but difficult to get booking. Very popular Bills bar on lake outside, gets very young later in the evening, but we cycle over early evening for happy hour's :)

We cycle down to Salo and around for lunch/shopping/market etc..and along coast. it is a hilly area! and site a bit isolated without bikes, but parking not a problem most places except smaller places....

If you want to take a look at the north end of the lake (ie Torbole, Riva del Garda) there's a MH only campsite at Torbole. It had a limit on the length of stay when we used it but it's very handy. The area is well-served by bike tracks for getting around. I think it's now called Camperstop Torbole - not cheap, but it is effectively a campsite not an aire.

Basically south east of Lazise is like one huge campsite due to the proximity of the theme parks, especially Gardaland. It's a case of take your pick. We've used Camping La Quercia which is pretty much what you'd expect from a four star site. More convenient for the parks is camping Amici di Lazise (45.479196, 10.726280) which offers a low cost option of stopping in their parking area, or a higher cost option of taking a pitch. It's just round the corner from the completely mental water park called Aqua Paradise, and the Rock n Roll eat all you can Diner, with shuttle buses to Gardaland. It's also possible to cycle along the lakeside into Lazise, which on market day becomes one vast market.

If you want to go in the Uffizi in Florence BOOK IN ADVANCE.
