Bang in the middle of the Jurassic Coast. Sandbanks also very close by with some of the best beaches in the world and Swanage and Studland just a hop across the ferry. Not far from the New Forest either. What more could you ask for?

Plenty of motorhome parking in Bourton-on-the-Water at the Station Road car park.

I used to like visiting that Victorian gun battery just outside Hull, on the Witherensea road.....They had a real Beverley aircraft parked in a field. Is it still there??

Are you talking about Fort Paull? If so, it's still there, not been for years though.

From south of Manchester.

No great falls, no mountains, nothing much to look at.

But what history, oh yes a mountain of history.

It starts with cotton. A good place to work cotton, it's damp, there are rivers.

So machines are made and suddenly the world's first industrial zone is born, Trafford Park. Here was engineering excellence, electricity, steam, machines, Rolls Royce. The whole world shopped at Trafford Park.

With huge wealth came a huge university. The atom was first split in Manchester, the world's first programmable computer was made in Manchester, the Lancaster was made in Manchester as was the Avro Vulcan ( give or take a few miles ). The list and famous names goes on and on including the Halle Orchestra.

All you can see and smell today is in The Manchester Museum of Science and Industry, free entry and worth every penny.

Between Liverpool and Machester is the UK's biggest canal which did not last long as the prime link because they then build the first railway between Liverpool and Manchester for the port of Liverpool to service the manufacturing power house of Manchester.

30 miles away is a very famous bit of engineering, the Anderton Boat Lift, instead of a load of locks they built an elevastor to lift the boats, the gears that did the lifting has a stange V shape, think two Vs together, think Citroen for Ms Citroen was the engineer.

We're also 10 minutes from King's Lynn and 25 from Wisbech with their abundance of overweight tattooed dinosaurs oft seen munching on burgers and the like from 10.00 am onwards most mornings, and that's just the women.

Arr that be the 'ardwick Roundybout good sir, t'was allrite until they built all them there souperstores, trouble wos them planners forgot to put in any more roads to get us away agin wiv our shoppin!

Also, our county, viewed from 2000ft and above.... airfield 10 seconds from back door! Simply stunning.

Jurassic coast 5minutes new forest national park 30seconds. world class beaches 10minutes. national motor museum 30minutes
we get inundated by grockles in the summer though. some vans park up for the whole summer to enjoy the area. thats the reason we drive out as the grockles drive in

North Devon has amazing beaches. Instow is all year dog friendly so are it's pubs. Woolacombe is dog friendly in winter
Saunton sands is dog friendly all year and has cafe and large car park
Westwood Ho beach area has pubs and cafés as well as a supermarket
Plenty of sites about for Motorhomes
Ukcampsites is a good place to look
Lots for families in North Devon yet still unspoilt
Tarka trail goes 30 miles traffic free Tarmac path. Cycle hire at Barnstaple, bideford, Torrington.
Cafés along the way at Braunton, Ashford, Barnstaple, fremington, Instow, bideford, Torrington and yarde orchard.
Brilliant walks and beaches. Surfing amazing.

We live a couple of minutes from the A38. If I turn left I can go to Cornwall or the Plymouth ferry port for France and Spain. Turn right and the rest of the UK and Scandinavia beckons.

We live in a beautiful country, apart from some inner cities, put a pin on a map and you are bound to find something of interest , a place to visit, be it coast, valley or mountain.. no one is far (except those poor unfortunates who choose to live inside the M25 ) from some amazing countryside..
Head for the nearest coast and go North or South ..

We now live on the Suffolk coast, near the Deben estuary, most of it is wild and unvisited, with miles of deserted shingle beaches and generally by-passed by those thrashing up the A12 from the 'smoke' in their haste to reach Norfolk and the Broads..

So turn right at Woodbridge and find a coast that we first visited 20 odd years ago, that has changed little in the past several hundred years.. You will need an OS map to find the paths and places to explore.. there are a few campsites and quite a few more CLs .. also some great wilding spots to discover. You may also need a Suffolk phrase book..

Salisbury Cathedral and old Sarum, Stonehenge, Wiltshire downland inc Westbury white horse and Avebury. Woodhenge, The New Forest, Burley tea rooms, The Jurassic coast and the Solent almost all of these are under 30 minutes from me.

I can be in the Isle of Wight in under and hour (by Boat) and the Dorset coastline probably the best sailing area in the country, Hengistbury Head, Durdle Door, Lulworth, etc all in under and hour. Lymington, Beaulieu, Bucklers hard, Poole harbour, I chose well............
