We are looking to get away for New Year, looking for advice from fellow funsters that have been to either Moffat or Glenmore at Hogmanay. Can't decide between the two so your input will help us decide.

Moffet's good The town is a short walk away. the Railway Hotel is the closest, but there is a couple or three in the town itself Never been there for New Year, but when we were there the natives were friendly. There is an Hotel where you have to climb the steps into it, on the right as you come into the town from the site, alongside the Hotel is an alley, there is/was??? quite a nice restaurant/bistro there( been a while since we were there), run by an english couple. reasonable prices for reasonable food

Might not be any space at Moffat C&CC site.... think they get booked up well in advance.

Well, it depends if you want the Lowlands or the Highlands really!

Haven't been to Moffat.

Love Glenmore. Excellent walks in all weathers. Check to see if Youth Hostel across the road is open (they have a public restaurant & lovely takeaway fish'n'chips), also restaurant at Glenmore Lodge a short(ish) walk away - this may well be your best bet for anything Hogmanay-y. Good bus service to Aviemore in one direction & in the other to the car park at the bottom of Cairn Gorm with funicular railway to the top with shop & Ptarmigan restaurant there if you're not inclined to climb. Nice little pub-grub, basic groceries shop & bar almost on the site. Cycling, watersports available on the doorstep (Loch Morlich) weather dependent!!! (therefore unlikely at this time of year unless you're into ice-swimming). Dog-sledding, reindeer, Rothiemurchus estate with lots of things to do close by.
NB all the above - check they're going to be open as the weather can be a bit deep & white!
Definitely our favourite campsite.

Was in Mofffat in Oct and nice little town and as others have said easy walk into town but don't know what's on a New Year
As CWH says plenty to do in Aviemore there will be fireworks in Aviemore at Midnight
The small bar next the site usually has live music so would expect that there will be something on
One thing about Glenmore is that unless you have a satalite you will not get a tv signal and probably won't get a mobile signal either

The left hand side has a few places that might have stuff on.

We are away collecting Grandson or could have had a party here.

Grantown caravan site will be open and a short walk from the town centre and they have a free street party and an excellent fireworks display at midnight
If you have a dog then quite a few bars allow you to take it in

Surprised that Glemore is full as its a massive site but know they only open part of it
There is a site at Rothiemurcus which is nearer Aviemore and opposite the Hilton Hotel
Stonehaven is open but CC site so may be full

Don't ever take as being 'true' that a C&CC or CC campsite is full when it says so on the website, they don't always have al the pitches available for booking on that so it is always best to ring and check.:xThumb:

I'm sure if you really want to go to Moffat you could wildcamp quite easy in or around town, there's a nice car park just as you enter the town from the south M74 and you could park down by the Co Op loads of space and nice and quite

I fancy Grantown now for New Year, lovely town lovely site, we went Jan this year, think we had to pay for internet

But agree about Glenmore, tried that a couple of times, no TV (sat dome worked though) no internet, but they might have improved internet options. It is a big field miles from anywhere though

we also tried another site about 5 miles north of Aviemore, same problem, not even phone signal, cant recall the name now

Might see you in Grantown :xThumb:

They only open part of the site at Grantown so best phone ASAP
We went 2 years ago and had too book 3 nights but some people just turned up and got in
It was that busy they opened up another part of the site
If both daughters and grandchildren were not coming up we would be heading to Grantown
If you want to wild camp we did see some MH's parked up one of the wide side streets beside the church

http://www.caravanclub.co.uk/carava...ls.aspx?csid=21894&arrivalDate=&departureDate=

they have 106 hard standings, most of them super pitches, but they are charging a premium for pitches £26 for standard super pitch prices not quoted on line (or I am not looking properly)

I think we had a super pitch when we went, higher amps on EHU and free internet

Just getting Bevs approval to book tomorrow for 30th - 3rd Jan :xThumb:
