Seeing the title of this post got me interested and then when reading I realised you guys were all being serious for once! And there was me about to post "As tight as your wife wants to squeeze them"!!! Sorry couldn't resist.

Well .... to be very honest, I never thought this could talk about mechanic! I had exactly the same thoughts..... Must be my very French side

On tight fitting wheel to hub situations it is possible if excess grease is applied to create a hydraulic grease wall behind the wheel, you are then torquing up, not to the hub flange but a very thin fluid wall, that will creep out and leave your wheel loose
ergo ANY grease is excessive, if you want find an alternative corrosion preventive or grease and wipe clean before fitting the wheel
