2006 2.2hdi Boxer. Topped up my oil and now instrument pod says level high. About 3 to 4 mm above top mark on dipstick. Should I attempt to drain some off? I'm in the middle of France at the mo.

Not the brightest person to answer... but could you not get a few foot of very thin plastic type hose and stick it down the dip stick hole and suck a bit out at a time...

Using clear you will be able to see the oil coming up... and stop before you get a gob full..

Or possibly drain some off from the nut on the bottom... but make sure the oil is cold.... otherwise you will burn your hand putting the plug back in..

I used to have a pump for removing oil through a dip-stick tube in the way Old Mo suggests but does it without drinking the stuff.

This pump was for use on a boat so it may be worth calling into a boatyard round your way.

Smart cars do not have a sump plug, old oil is sucked up through the dipstick tube. Find a Mercedes or Smart dealer and he will sort it.

The level was about 2\3rds between low and full on the dipstick and I put in about 800ml.
