Get the ferry from Hull Bill, it's close enough for you. We did it last year and drove down through France and into Spain and would do the same again.

I suspect ferry prices will be higher over the Christmas period. If you have the time travel earlier, the bairn could always fly and join you during the school holidays, British Airways are good with unaccompanied children. I used them many times when living in Kuwait, but again expect prices of tickets to be higher over Christmas.

Hull to Zeebrugge is still around £500 plus meals.

That buys a lot of diesel even after deducting the cost of dover/calais crossing.

Since 2009 with motorhomes several caravans then tents before that.
Bill if I were you, I'd go on a plane.
Book into all inclusive as you said. Cheaper.
Fair enough , noisier, and you'll have to put up with other folk annoying the pants off you on the way there.
But your a sociable couple and will enjoy when your there.
Plus , with the problems you've had with your van in the past, at least you know you'll get there! What ever you decide. Have a nice time.

We usually do the Zeebrugge crossing and with 7 nights camping cheques it's about £300, just been to Dusseldorf and there were no deals on the Zeebrugge crossing but got Rotterdam crossing for about £400 with camping cheques both from Hull of course. Got to be £100 to £150 in diesel return trip To any port on the South coast which makes the a ferry about £100 return or better if you can get it around £300, and save a days driving each way. Ferry deals booked with the caravan club.

You don't have to buy a meal on the ferry as plenty of people take on butty's.

I can't remember the boat name but we travelled Portsmouth, bilbao and they did indeed have a couple of microwaves at the end of the bar.

You could buy meals (if I remember) in the little shop on board for the microwave. (y)

Hi Bill

You can buy Camping cheques from the caravan club and Alan Rogers, they would cost £14.95 and you can use them at any site that is part of thee scheme.

We don't buy them but the Caravan Club use them as part of a package deal to bring down the price of a ferry crossing, it's a bit mad really as the first time we used them Jen rang the CC for a ferry price and it was £500 Hull Zeebrugge return, after a bit of air sucking through teeth they said would you be interested in a package deal, what's that she says, well if you take 7 nights camping cheques we can do the crossing for something like £300, and how much will the camping cheques be says she asks, oh no they are included.

You get a map and book that tells you where you can use them and when, we used at least 7 in Spain without going out of our way.
