I disturbed these three earlier today while taking pics in a quiet country lane - the racket they made was unlike anything I've ever heard before.

What are they? They don't appear to be young grouse, pheasant, or partridge. Are they juvenile or fully grown?

Thanks DevonBeeKeeper. They weren't enclosed in any sort of compound, they were running around a field owned by a local organic farm who don't include Guinea Fowl among their product range. Could they be escapees?

No wonder people eat them - I couldn't abide listening to them for too long.

Best security devices ever..... Hands down, they beat PIR lamps and burglar alarms. They roost in trees or roof tops and frighten the pants off any intruders.
Noisier than cockerels. Self maintaining and nice to look at to boot.

Yeah, guinea fowl, I have a video of them on my phone just to catch the noise they make.

I've only ever eaten one and the taste was more like partridge or chicken, it wasn't a very strong game taste, I recall enjoying it. That was 1971 when I first went ferreting for Wabbs and the farm we were working on gave us a brace, 1 each for me and my pal.

Of course my mum was a fabulous cook and living through the war years they knew how to prepare and cook most things. Lovely
