We are in west Yorkshire but not on the posh Leeds side, we are in the ruffty tuffty Todmorden side.

We love France and have found the majority of French aires as safe as your own back garden and there are some really beautiful ones. For the first time you do not have to travel hundreds of miles down France to get the flavour of the country.
I and many others will tell you to get the "All the Aires" book from Vicarious books it is invaluable. For a first timer wishing to check out the safety of aires try Embry just 50 minutes from the Calais ports.

REVIEW
2006 A good secure Aire behind the Mun. Campsite & next to a nice lake. The parking is level & quiet, with nice walks around the lakes & lots of birds + wildlife to see. We noticed a slight noise at night from a distant factory.

Never had any reason to feel unsafe on any of the Aires we have stayed at. Admittedly it seems a bit daunting until you try them. We have stayed on many in lovely locations. Once you try them you will find it so easy to just tour from place to place and your destination is no longer a campsite somewhere. Try it. I'm sure you'll like it. :thumb:

We made up a rule when we retired and vowed always to head south and besides there are more than enough midges in Todmorden without heading out looking for them-----

each to their own as I believe Scotland can be beautiful
