My Ducato has done 15k, gear selection is getting increasingly difficult, especially 1st and reverse. Is there anything I can do before taking it to a proffessional?

Excuse my ignorance, but is this the Ducato Max chassis?

you cannot beat a bit of lubrication when things get stiff:RollEyes:

Pull the gaiter off from around the gear stick, this will expose the top gear linkages, you can lubricate them and hope it helps,

carefull with the WD 40 it makes some plastics "swell" and i believe the parts under the gaiter are plastic....

Thanks eric I`ll get the WD 40 out.

WD40 is not intended as a lubricant. It is more likely to dissolve any remaining lubricant and make things much worse (but better for a day or two, so it looks like it has fixed it).

You could check on top of the gearbox if something has dropped onto the linkages,
We had a motorhome that wouldn't select reverse at work and it turned out to be the heater intake drain pipe had somehow got caught up in the linkage jamming it.

i am sure there are a few types but i use this on plastic gears.

Broken Link Removed

i learnt the hard way with WD40, sprayed it into locks on a caravan to keep them smooth, the main habitation lock seized through swelling of the plastic due to a reaction with the WD40. this was confirmed when i purchased the replacement.

not all plastics are affected but on the basis of its better to be sure than sorry!:thumb:
