The various threads on damp ingress has got me [STRIKE]worrying[/STRIKE] thinking.

When you have a habitation service is the whole van checked for damp , floor and all?

My damp German van passed a hab check with flying colours 3 weeks before extensive damp was found. Last hab check I'll ever pay for. Electrical test ,Gas drop test and damp test....money for old rope:Angry:
Only ever had them done as it was a warranty condition.

If you want to be sure it's all been done. Do it yourself. In the past I have found damp in vans that have allegedly been checked.

Look in downloads, I'm pretty sure there is a hab check form in there.

its far easier to tick the boxs than it is to probe the interior walls. :Angry:

But isn't it in the commercial interests of the dealer to actually find some damp so that they can then work on it?

Unless they are dodgy and selling on a dodgy van , I can't see the point of not doing it properly?

Those sheets don't seem to specify though what damp should be checked for and where. I might add though that I am trying to read them on an IPad which is a pain in the ar$e.

I think I might be asking for a certificate from the dealer in future that the vehicle is free of damp, especially within the warranty period.

If you Google MH habitation checks you can print off a plan of the areas that should be checked for damp and after your habitation check you should get a printout showing the various readings , but I agree with others best done yourself on an ongoing basis
habitation checks do not check the underneath of the floors (or very few do )
But maybe best to get gas checked by approved engineer

the only way to know for sure what IS to be tested is to ask/specify before instucting the service agent to do the work,

IE please check all walls floor area ceiling for damp AND provide a writtern report on same.

if thats what you want,

or do learn to do it yourself, I do it at least 3 times a year,

using a meter sometimes can lead to funny results, I did a test on the wall board in the middle of a cuboard, its shwed a high reading, but it was just surface moisture, An hour with the heater on and all doors open it was gone compleatly and never to return.

Get one of the traders to show you how/what/were at a meet:thumb:
