Hi,

I am looking to source an after market anti roll bar, rear suspension, for a 1997 fiat Ducatto (Hymer B544)

If I could get it fitted that would be a bonus

Cheers ::bigsmile:

Just checking, are you looking for an anti-roll bar? i.e a replacement for the original?
Or are you looking for a new suspension set up e.g torsion bar suspension?

Thanks, looking for something better than original to replace, that's if there is anything to replace?

I am rolling excessively in some situations...

... Typically going round left hand bends I suddenly have to get creative with the steering and brake

many many years! since I was a kid
fit semi air suspension, solves the issue with ease
you can buy the kit at Marcle leisure which takes 2 hours to fit easily
Broken Link Removed about £400 ish

or have the same fitted elsewhere at twice the cost

Have you checked? is there one & is it all attached as it should be? If so air suspension is your easiest cheapest route.I pressume you have leaf springs, it is possible with ALKO type, but more expensive.
I agree Marcle leisure is your man, I've done done both of my last two vans:thumb:

my brother had the same problem on his 548 classic ; cured it with Timbren progressive springs from canada ....the uk agent is ride suspensions in cambridge , may be available elsewhere

its hollow springs guaranteed for life , worked perfectly , maintenance free

beauty was they took 15 minutes to fit , no tools ; they just replace the bump stops , touching the axle when stationary

just jack up the vehicle on one side letting the axle drop , unscrew the bump stop , screw in the Timbren and lower , repeat on other side

presuming it is the same Fiat chassis [ ducato 2 ]I think the kit number is FPR 001 [ don't hold me to it though ]

That sounds a bit more like a bit of oversteer maybe caused by worn suspension joints, typically tie rod ends or right rear tyre low.
Has it always done this?

They look exactly like the ones I took off to fit the air suspension, still got them if anyone wants them.

I pressumethe tyre pressures are right( about 80 psi)

on a 544 ....should be about 4.5 bar front, 5 bar rear

80psi is far too high
5 bar fron 5.5 bar rear checked on Wednesday, had problem today

I also noticed that there is a big range of opinion around tyre pressures but I don't want to muddy this thread

The front suspension was recently replaced...
... springs dampers and bushes, nothing was mentioned about tie rod ends

MOT was done in August last year also nothing noted about tie rod ends.

i was doing about 45MPH at the time and there wasn't a warning sign, so the bend shouldn't have been that bad?

To fit the air suspension( it fits in the same place).

So did the progressive spring assistance not do it for you?

Are you happier with the air bags?

The rubber spring assisters are only glorified bump stops. The air bags are much better as they are adjustable, give a quieter smoother ride & can aid levelling. That's not to say they are a cure all, there are many other reasons that can affect stability.
45 mph might not be high speed in a car but there are many motorhomers who don't get much above that in a straight line, let alone, round a bend.

I think I found out why it's rolling on the right hand side.....

.... The rubber buffer is bent and it's not catching the cup on the spring assembly, in fact from the colour of the rubber it looks like the bumper misses and riding up the side of the spring assembly.

I don't think there is even an anti-roll bar fitted, I can't see one.

Air bags I think:cry:
