Anyone got one of these and do you recommend?
A very expensive camera system so I'd like to know it won't corrode like the commonplace dual cameras do.
I can find the complete kit for £527 which is a huge amount below RRP

Earlier this year I removed my Waeco single camera system and the camera was showing evidence of paint bubbling/corrosion. This was after 6 years of use. Still worked alright but I decided to change for a twin lens setup from parkingcameras.com at circa £200. Picture quality is excellent, better than the Waeco but I suppose technology has moved on in the time from original installation.

Personally I think the Waeco is overpriced and am very happy with the replacement.

I already have a white dual lens one with good pictures but the brackets rust and the paint corrodes of the alloy lens bodies

RRP is £820 Oh Please! while I can find a seller at £527 delivered still expensive but it illustrates the disgusting profit margin to play with

Oh and for the record, I have just got round to replacing the single lens Gulf Stream fitted camera for the dual lens, running through a "in dash" double DIN Pioneer head unit with the F130-2 Truck Navigation system as I think that it is the best camera on the market!

They stay looking good as well:thumb:

I notice the cameras use CMOS sensors which surprises me in such a high price product. Is the picture quality as good as you might expect from CCD

I have never understood why some rearview cameras do not use CMOS sensors since that is the kind found in top-end digital SLRs.

You have prompted me to do some internet research. For a reversing camera, it is possible that CCD is a better option. CMOS sensors are cheaper to make but crucially for the SLR application, they consume a lot less power and can transmit data much more quickly to the camera's processing engine.
The CCD sensor is older technology and, since the motorhome can provide it with plenty of power, it can produce a high quality, stable image quite easily. Speed of data transmission is not an issue.
An SLR using a CMOS sensor has a lot more processing power than the computers that got Apollo to the moon and is therefore able to apply all sorts of algorithms to optimise an image.

Since CMOS sensors are intrinsically cheaper to make, I suspect there is a world of difference between the CMOS used in a Nikon D4s or Canon 5D and those used in cheap reversing cameras.

I'll be honest, I have no idea why Dometic make range of cameras, some CCD and some CMOS

What ever the rationale I am know that the image that I get with my new CAM44 is great and I am very pleased with it paired with my Pioneer head unit and I can have my F130-2 truck navigation, audibly over laid on the image.

I suspect that the reason could be the single connecting lead? data speed or voltage drop to power the two cameras?

If anyone wants to see side by side images we (Van Bitz) have two CAM50 cameras which are a Sony CCD1/4" lens, mounted on a display adjacent to the CAM44 (CMOS)

The set up allows for the images to be seen side by side (over and under actually ) on identical monitors. It also allows you to swap between the 5" and the 7" monitors
