We're off to the Isles of Mull and Skye for a fortnight in April and I would really like to forage for shell fish and possibly beach fish while we are there.

Can anyone recommend any decent places to fish from or forage in April?

I have read you can collect mussels and winkles at the top of Loch Scridain on Mull.

I haven't been there but from the OS map (see below) it looks suitable - you want rocks of course not a sandy beach. You might also be able to rake for cockles around here.

Not sure about fishing, Wrasse, Pollock perhaps at that time of year? Some locally farmed salmon might be tastier!

On Skye..

Glen Brittle , nice site, next to the beach.. toilets and shop.. nice grassy pitches.. plenty of space.. great walking area .. no idea if the fishing is good or not.. didn't have my rods.. but worth a visit.

Thanks Jim - glad that we think alike :)
We went to Carbost last year and picked up some oysters and hot-smoked salmon from the Oyster Shed (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Isle-of-Skye-Oysters/166427593402600) and some Talisker from the Distillery and then camped at Glen Brittle for a few nights; it was wonderful. I foraged a few mussels which were tasty and hope to do the same this time :)

Fishing looked as though it could be good but need to get there at the right time for the sea trout and am not sure what other sea fish are about in April.

Loch Scridain looks ideal - were are planning on having a few nights in that area - just need to check the tide tables so that I'm in the right place at the right time.
