Beinng a dinosurarse I use XP on my desktop computer. It works fine for most things but not eBay.
If I try to scroll through picture of items they don't change (From my ebay)
If I get an email reminder that an item is ending shortly and open the ebay page from there the pictures do scroll, whats going on please?
If I the open my ebay and try to view the same item again its back to no scroll.

On and off for many years.
Try pressing F5 and see if that makes a difference. You may be loading a cached page.

The only other thing I can think of is that there is a scroll lock of some type operating but it doesn't sound like that.......

Sorry I can't suggest anything else right now. I use an XP laptop to run my sewing machine's robotic functions. It works better with XP than anything newer. XP was always a good solid operating system which is why it has been around so long.

If you're using a Logitech mouse check the settings. It's possible to have different settings for different programmes.

Think about ditching it and get something with windows 7.
We regularly change software...but computers should be replaced every 5/6 years. Not specifically helpful with your problems I know but it has to be the way to go....and a big improvement too.

Windows XP uses a browser called Internet Explorer 8 (or even earlier if you haven't been running windows update correctly). This version is so old, that many even major websites no longer go through all the expensive hoops required to get it to do anything. Even Microsoft no longer support it on many of their websites as it is such a ballache to program for.

It is not possible to upgrade this ancient version of Internet Explorer if you run XP. However, Windows XP will run modern browsers from other sources. You should install one, either Google Chrome, or Mozilla Firefox and use that instead. I recommend Firefox, as Google have turned to the dark side (even if they do provide the best search results).

You should also note that XP is ending extended support on April 8th. This means there will no longer be security updates, and your computer will be infested with viruses and probably acting as a secret child porn repository after this date. I would advise an operating system upgrade, or if it is still using thermionic valves, a new computer.

P.S. Be careful when downloading these. Normally the top five links are paid for by spyware companies who will fill your computer with dodgy toolbars, whilst trying to look like the "official" site. Make sure you download from the original source.

What do you use it for, and what hardware do you have? You might find Linux would be a free solution for continuing to have a modern internet experience on older hardware without needing to buy a new operating system.

You can install it onto a USB key and boot off that, so you can try before you (don't need to) buy.

I have tried the various other browsers and don't get on with them. I don't have the patience to learn a new operating system, This old dog refuses to learn new tricks. It is a media centre and that's what I use it for, compiling videos and video editing, digitising my entire, cd/dvd/tape/vinyl collection. Picture manipulation, watching TV,Skype, a dozen or more forums, as a general information centre and anything else I fancy, the one thing I'm not into is games. If that means the computer will eventually close down without support so be it I'll change my hobbies accordingly and forget the world of computers and forums.

I`m a newbie, now 1 year
Sorry cannot help with your problem, computers are great when everything is running as it should, a pain in the a..... when not.

XP is /was a good system, new and improved in my book it usually isn`t , as far as I know now if you buy a new system it is windows 8 which I do not want at any price, My desk top computer has gone down , has been for some time, a guy is coming this week to see to it, I have Windows 7 -32 bit on desk top computer and Windows 7 64 bit on my laptop, which I am happy with, I don`t want to buy a new system as they are all Windows 8.

Hope you can get it sorted. have you tried emptying your cashe and history it might help,? I have CCCleaner and use that periodically to clean computer up. Good Luck.

Margaret

I would suggest you try Firefox Roger. IMO it is a far better browser than IE, but is sufficiently like it that you don't really need to learn anything new.
I use XP on my laptop, as much of my older software will not run on Win7. I use Win7 64bit on my desktop, but woul not want to buy anything using widows8.
When Microsoft brought out their last crap OS (Vista) at least you could chuck it and install XP for free. Pity you can't do the same for Win 8. Microsoft seem to have alternate good and bad operating systems so roll on Win9 (or whatever they decide to call it)

I really would not continue to run XP for anything useful or as a regular PC - even allowing for malware scanners keeping many things at bay, some of the newer exploits will affect the underlying software of XP and it's likely you wouldn't know that it's happening as no security patches are being released.

I have Windows 8.1 as my home system - Windows 8 and the metro interface was a bit of a dog, but 8.1 gives you the option to continue using that, or using a Classic interface (as per XP and 7) - or swapping between the 2 easily.

Win 8.1 really is a very good system now and I would recommend it. the downside is that some programs that run on XP may not have updates for 8.1 but they tend to be legacy programs that have come up through various iterations of Windoze pre-XP and are probably well past their sell date anyway.
