Hi we visited Lake Bled last July and it was absolutely stunning, if you want any info on Slovenia feel free to ask as we spent 10 days there and have motorhoming friends who live in Ljubljana.

Here is a pic of the church in the middle of the lake pic is taken from the castle.

We've driven to Venice a couple of times but not via Eastern Europe.

Our preferred option there is to camp near Ca Savio (across the lagoon), cycle along the bike track to Punta Sabbioni and catch the ferry into Venice for sightseeing. That way you can cool off in the Adriatic when you get back after spending a day on your feet.

On the way back I'd suggest driving to Bologna then across to Turin before going over the Alps rather than attempting to weave round the Mediterranean coast to the S of France, unless you specifically want to go there. If you don't fancy the expense and tedium of alpine road tunnels there's always the Col de Montgenevre to Briancon to Grenoble route, with a huge Alpine aire at Montgenevre (just inside France).

we did a similar trip last June/July (missed birmingham though) as Germany and Austria were drying out after their floods.
We traveled thro Germany and Austria, Slovenia and into Croatia before returning thro Italy and France. We had a great time and enjoyed Slovenia and Bled. We didn't visit any C Camps as some years ago I'd stood in the gas chamber at Mauthausen-Gusen and that stays with you.
