been to a couple in hamburg a few years ago and one in berlin many years ago. yes...very busy at night but its that that makes it special.

took a walk down the elbe in blancanasa, hamburg, guy selling gluwien from a barrow on the river bank...hot and sweet. much better than the market sellers.
promised myself i'd go back one day.

How far into Germany would you be travelling John, and over what time scale please?

Jock.

not too far jock and perhaps for a week so to take in more than one city.

maybe cologne (kuln) , dusseldorf or dortmund (or all of 'em :thumb:)

cologne has six markets (4 large..2 small)

dortmund has the biggest

duesseldorf has six themed markets

HERES a link to ALL the german markets

i'll have to look into campsites doug, but i dont see a problem.
the one in my other post is grass only:cry: but i'm sure some will have hardstanding and a pitch large enough for an ARV

i think a standard size is around 80 to 100 sq mtr for the euro pitches.:thumb:

We went to a few markets last December in our 35 footer. The best stop was on
a Stelplatz on the Moselle in Trier which is the oldest city in Germany. The Stelplatz is huge and access easy. 15 minutes walk into the centre of the city. There is 3 amp electric available. ( and you can nip into Luxemburg for cheap diesel )

There is a picture if you follow the link and click on our winter trip 2007

fair advice mark but its the drive there and the atmosphere of the markets. (plus the gluwien and hot wurst):thumb::thumb:
for me the shopping is just a neccesary evil.

cold is not a problem for me and snow would make it even more atmospheric.

bet you think...who is this idiot! :ROFLMAO:

Hi Pops, If you do go to the Hamburg Christmas market this year, here are a few tips. Parking for the duration of your stay: 1) A forty minute drive along the BAB7 (towards Flensburg) to KALTENKIRCHEN. Turn off for Kaltenkirchen, then turn left at the lights, then turn right at the next lights, go under the bridge and a few hundred metres on your left is a proper Camp site for MH's, it is FREE. It is opposite the HOLSTEN THERME recreation center. There is a turning right next to the center where you can empty out your toilet and fill up with water for €2. The Camp site has plenty of bins. Town center 10 minutes walk.Shopping, Aldi, Lidl and Plus is a 2 minute walk from Camp site.
2) City center, Mönckaberger straße (like Regent Street in London) for Christmas lights. Parking will be a problem. Find a spot around the ALSTER (lake) on one of the side streets. 3) Blankennesse is a beautiful place to go sight seeing, along the maze of cobbled streets and houses that lead to the beach. 4) Hamburger Hafen, City ferry dock site. You can walk through the old tunnel under the river Elb to the other side. Make sure you have a video camera and digi camera. Forget the Reeperbahn, it is a dump and quite dangereous, the Russian mafia have taken over. Hope this helps.

john.
