Since 2011 (so a bit of a newbie)
Decided it was time to replace the two leisure batteries so went to Halfords.

They kindly fitted them, but then it turned out that there's no lip at the bottom of the batteries and so the clamp that holds them in place has nothing to grip down on.

Let me try explain that better. Between the two batteries there's was a bit of metal with a screw in it. This had to be removed to get the batteries out of their space under the seat. This bit of metal grips a lip that is at the bottom of each battery and holds them down tight. All the batteries in Halfords had little lips at the base, apart from the leisure batteries. Go figure!

They said I could take them back tomorrow if I can't come up with a solution.

Any bright ideas from the geniuses on here?

They were £89 for 115 ah ones and they charged £7 for fitting.

I'm off over to Germany on Saturday so needed something quick.

If anyone knows any good mobile battery fitters or anywhere near Leeds/Bradford that could replace them tomorrow I'll be down there like a shot.

Tanya batteries and dozens of other reputable sellers use eBay so we'll have to agree to disagree

Well they're barely over half the price, so you can buy a spare.

I was utterly shocked the last time I checked the price of a battery in Halfords. Tayna wanted £36.99. Halfords would have wanted £69.99 had they had it in stock. Instead they only had their premium £89.99 version. Yes, it had a 5 year warranty, but tayna offered a 4 year one. I'm not sure the extra convenience was worth £53. Don't get me wrong, for some people, the convenience and simplicity of having fitting available is worth that. For me, it is certainly not.

If you want a battery to last, don't buy expensive batteries. Just stop them discharging below 50% and keep them charged in cold weather.

The Topic is about liesure batteries? If my van wont start I call the AA
leisure batteries get abused more so than starter batteries being left to go dead flat,so it makes sense to use halfords if only for their no quibble replacement policies,as it goes the guy had a good buy with the 115 ah batteries at £89 i might get 2 at the weekend,as mine are 6 years old now although they have been looked after they don't hold their charge as well as they used to :thumb:

and how many posts will there be this year about dead flat unrecoverable batteries when vans are pulled out of storage for the start of the season.
thinking about you post,if i buy a battery from halfords with a five year warranty and take it back as faulty after 4 years and 11 months, they will replace it no problem, so i get a new battery for hopefully another five years :thumb: as i said worth the extra:thumb:

Well, I've saved enough for at least another battery anyway, even if they don't deliver on their 4 year warranty. Mine will hopefully not be dead out of storage, due to the 200W of solar panels. Every time I checked over winter, they were a healthy 12.6V in the morning (before sunrise).

I buy Chinese ones from battery distribution Aldridge , about £40 you have to get an order off someone but that's easy enough with a daughter in the tyre and battery job:thumb::thumb:
Got them on fork lift , 3 tractors , jcb plus two for leisure in the van, never had a duff one yet.
Btw it says leisure or traction on them all, same battery::bigsmile:
And they have lugs on:thumb:

another competitive battery supplier is battery megastore in Tewkesbury, just off the M5 and loads of space to park up overnight if you need to.

Since 2011 (so a bit of a newbie)
Ended up getting two from GoOutdoors near Pudsey, Leeds.

They price matched against the price on Amazon and gave me an extra 10%, so it worked out about £140 for two 100ma batteries. I would have prefer 115 or 120, but the max they did was 100.

Thanks to everyone for suggestions.
