the oldest i ever saw was a 1920s lorry with a canvas tilt and a set of bunks and kitchen inside. on the road looked like any other truck of its age but on a campsite a wooden set of stairs were put in place to enter the camper

i do have photos somewhere as it used to be taken to vintage car and truck shows. not only was it put on display but the owners family slept in the back overnight

But when was it converted? It just looks like a very old truck (American?) which someone has put beds in. I doubt the conversion is that old, 1950s perhaps?

The item in the OP is really just a collapsible shed or tent. Which prompts the question, what was the first genuine MH?

In the early 60s the only vehicle my dad has was one of these. So for a holiday he'd put a tarpaulin over the back me my brother and our big old collie dog called Bingo would get under the tarp with some old sleeping bags and blankets and off we'd go. He would sleep in the cab or sometimes under the tarp and we'd eat in cafes or fish n chip shops we had no mum but it was the best time of our lives.
Sometimes the simplest pleasures are the best :thumb:
Also gave me my sense of adventure

Belay my comments on US trucks, just spotted it is RHD. Leyland?

The red wings suggests bomb disposal, so still ex-military I think. Unless they have been painted on for effect.

It's a 3Ton COMMER GS Cargo 4x4 Made for the Brit Army circa 44 (ish)
I remember seeing a photo of 1 crossing a Baily Bridge over the Rhine

There was a RASC company based in Dortmund that had the Tipper/Dump Truck version in the late 50s early 60s
