Anyone remember Journey into Space? Currently being re-broadcast 18.30 on Radio 4 Digital. Used to listen on Monday evenings (in the dark of course) to the Light Programme, and to the repeat the following Sunday!

I was very young but I loved it and it turned me on to science fiction forever.

I remember it was on either just before or after the Goon Show on Sunday, but not much else. We actually had a space program when that was made, well a nuke missile program that launched a single satellite.

I've got the full series of Journey into Space on cassette. Alfie Bass played Lemmy (Lemmie?).
Also remember Dick Barton.

Looking at the schedule there are some good programs coming up - Night Watch from Discworld starting next Monday at 18:00 for example. I must confess I tend to record them and then burn them onto CDs. Strictly speaking an infringement of copyright but they are for my own use so I guess I would receive only a short sentence for a first offence.

The most ridiculous programme must have been Peter Brough with Archie Andrews. I mean, can you believe it, ventriloquist on the radio?:ROFLMAO:

All this begs the question:

What happened to good, honest entertainment?
I used to love Sunday lunchtime and after when I was a kid.
Navy Lark (Left hand down a bit, No.1)
Beyond our Ken
Round the Horn.
No social message or interference from PC clowns, just good fun.
"I'm Julian, this is my friend Sandy" would be classed as homophobic now.
The troublesome Clitheroe Kid would be classed as a bad role model.

Are we showing our age?

Television killed his act as the audience could see his lips move. When he was on the stage the audience were so far away they couldn't tell. Sunday for us was having dinner while listening Two Way Family Favourites with Cliff Michelmore followed by Wakey, Wakey with Billy Cotton and then one of the comedy classics. Wonderful memories. :thumb:
