Hi

I thought it might be interesting to find out what fellow funsters particularly like or dislike about their chosen motorhomes. Might also be handy for potential motorhome buyers wondering what to look for.

Suppose I'd better go first then?

Motorhome:

Swift Sundance 630G

Like:

Loads of storage including garage plenty big enough for bikes etc.

Gas and electric fire. We often use this rather than the blown air, keeps us warm even in the depths of winter.

Plenty of lounging room. Two inward facing sofas means you can put your feet up and stretch out.

Dislike:

No access to garage from inside. Big problem when I have run out of red wine and wife is refusing to go out to get more from garage in pouring rain.

Low level waste water tank and outlet tap. These are just a few inches from the ground so I have to be careful when reversing over a kerb etc in car parks.

Combined toilet and shower. At least it doesn't have the dreaded shower curtain but very little space to move.

Anybody else want to have a go, I would suggest 3 likes and 3 dislikes?

Paul

Here goes!

Motorhome: Burstner Delfin T680

Likes:
  • Renault Master 3.0 Base - Not a Fiat and pulls like a train
  • Build Quality. It's my 4th van and the oldest I've owned, but the build quality inside surpasses everything else. I think I'd have to buy a Frankia or Cathargo to find similar build in a newer van
  • Bathroom with separate shower cubical and pull out toiletries cabinet. Very handy!

Dislikes
  • It's not a Performance 625. This model has the same layout, but Alko Chassis, twin floor, underfloor storage lockers and a bigger water/waste tank. But there was only 27 registered in the UK!
  • Once you've had a 6 meter panel van conversion, you've been spoilt. We're not able to use this van in the same way.
  • I'd have liked the habitation door with a Window, but at a £700 factory option (and £2k aftermarket!) that's not going to happen.

Likes.

1 Small enough to use like a large car.

2 Big enough inside, to use as a Motorhome.

3 Average 32mpg.

Dislikes

1 Autocruise build quality. (awful, in virtually every way)

2 Agricultural to drive. (had Mercs before, so spoiled)

3 Height, from the floor, of toilet seat. (folding steps needed to get on it ????)

Like:
Storage capacity - loads more than we need really.
Very comfortable fixed single beds
Spacious lounge area with mood lighting and swivel table

Dislike:
Boiler is under my bed and, if we leave the heating on at night, the boiler awakes me up when it kicks in
Bathroom very small (although shower is separate)
The waste bin - I hate it!!!! It's hardly bigger than a letter box and is virtually useless.

Would we have another - definitely YES.

1 the look ......very smart inside.
2 the space..... Big fridge and freezer, plenty of lounge space, masses of storage.
3 the comfort .......lovely beds! Very nice and warm....plenty room for my gadgets and hobby equipment in garage, easy drive.

Dislikes

1 some of the lighting too bright.
2 the oven and grill .... Just seems small and faffy prefer to use cobb or cooking gadgets.
3 the dining table maybe a bit too large hymers extending table very impressive

(4 sorry .......the people who tell you you don't buy the right motorhome first time! and winge on about buying new!!

Advantages
  1. Small enough to throw around (6.25m) and able to store on my drive.
  2. Rear lounge. Great for entertaining and inclement weather.
  3. 28 mpg.
Disadvantages
  1. Having to make up the bed each evening.
  2. Lack of large storage area(no garage).
  3. Continually at maximum weight.

Would I buy another? No, I'd go for a Hymer with a garage.

My only dislike is the fixed bed simply because the cat walks all over me while I'm asleep. Wouldn't have been able to reach me in an over-cab bed!

Apart from that the full size cooker and fridge, and decent sized freezer box are good points.

2 Truma Blown air supply to cab area could be better

Like;

The fact that I can go anywhere now (couldn't in 37' fiver + truck!)
Double flooring and winterised
Huge garage and underfloor storage

Dislike;

Bathroom too small - all 3 facilities in the same small room, fed up banging my knees when having a 'sit down' :winky:
Cab seats are 'down' a step and not really part of the lounge area - the left front seat is of no use socially.
Bloody dinette. What a waste - should have fitted an L shape with 2 swivel seats!

Would I buy another - no but thats not a reflection on the van - which is a good, solid, reliable and comfortable piece of kit - this will do untill i retire in 2 years (or find some more dosh before then!) then it's spend the kids inheritance on a newish one and clear off accross the channel!:thumb:

Luxury - mood lighting; build quality; island bed - more comfy than home!
Bathroom - separate shower and loo sections that open up and combine to make one big bathroom accessible from either end of van
Storage space - huge garage and oodles of underfloor space, as well as lots of cupboards

Dislikes

Lack of kitchen work surface - I was spoiled by our Hymer 694, with flap up extension. But I do love my double sinks (both of which have covers that double up as work surface) and huge fridge/freezer
Kitchen bin - no provision, so we've just had to get creative
Lounge table - I'd like one of those folding top ones so we don't have to keep shuffling around each other

Would we buy another one - YES

Same van as Addie, above. Same likes and dislikes .... but I hate the bathroom apart from the storage cupboard. My Eldiss had a w'alkaround bathroom with loads of room to get changed in and I miss it. I hate the fact that I cannot buy a mesh habitation door screen ... the way it is built it would cost hundreds to have one, and as Addie says there is no window in the door. This could be a plus as in my last van they tried to gain access using that window.

On top of that if the bloomin' van was working I might have loved it but had problems with loose wiring, incorrect wiring, faulty unit and so a bit cheesed off .... but that isn't the van's fault ... it is the dealers'. Don;t like the small cooker which is very low down and I have to lie on my stomach on the floor to light it and look at food.

Always wanted a fixed bed... I have got one and wish I had a walk around one as I look like a beached whale when trying to make it... Is there no pleasing this woman!!!!!:Doh:

Ok, here we go
Auto sleeper broadway FB, 2013.

Likes.
Interior, lots of room
Substantial wooden furniture.
Comfortable seating
Comfortable bed.
Nice driver, very smooth and quiet.
Full size cooker
Full size fridge freezer.
Lots of lights, including blue led's built into the bathroom mirror!
Still smells new.

Dislikes.
Outside hatch for under bed storage too small
Would have liked openings under side sofas for access instead of having to lift the base everytime.
External water tanks and pipes, not good for cold weather camping. Now heated and insulated
Struggling for any more, but I would have liked a heater outlet at the front of the van.

Would I buy again/ recommend? Definitely yes, and I can't understand why so few Funsters have these.

Ingenious separate shower and toilet that can change to combined "en suite"
Low drop down bed that doesn't need a ladder, and still leaves lounge area for sitting

Dislikes

Could do with a couple more internal lockers for incidental bits and bobs
Wish it would all fit into a 6m van!

A plus which can also be a minus is that the large payload also means we get clobbered for tolls in Europe!

Pretty much everything  but especially:

1. Large well-equipped kitchen with space to move around freely.

2. Enormous full-height cupboard - same size as wardrobe but kitted out with shelves so everything I need is to hand instead of buried in a locker.

3. Heating system - boiler is central so duct runs are equal and all vents deliver hot air. Runs on gas or electric - so at this time of year I'm toasty-warm on 16A hook-up with heating on electric all the time at no extra cost.

Dislikes:

1. Hideous blue-LED mirrored 'cocktail cabinet' - now converted into a bookcase with the LEDs hidden.

2. Enormous dining table - now removed and I use a freestanding folding table that stores neatly in the cab instead.

3. Ridiculously low electric step - one small step from the ground, then a giant leap into the van (to misquote Neil Armstrong). Now replaced with a different step which splits the distance into two equal halves.

Plus the more-than-a-few niggling 'teething problems' I've had with the van - some more dangerous than others!
