its far more efficient to have normal bulbs in places like the bathroom and store cupboards as they are not on long enough for the eco ones to get to their optimum output.

use led for areas where you need instant light and economy but again even the warm white ones appear too stark and bright compared to a good old fashioned bulb.

Hi You mention eco bulbs. Most think you are using L E D bulbs, but do you mean the low watage bulbs that we use in our houses. If you mean ones for domestic use, If you do, 5w is useless . We have low wat bulbs through out our home with no inconveniance. As a center light and standard lamps we use 15w , wall lights, small rooms, outside lighting and multipul ls 11w It takes a few seconds to gain max brightness but this is no problem when compared with the savings.
If I have got the wrong end of the stick please forgive my dimness. :winky:

Bump!
Had enough of feeling around in the gloom for another year:cry:

Tried some new halogen bulbs today :thumb: WoW -I CAN SEE ! but-
after 5 mins I could smell burning :whatthe:.

Investigating the new bulbs have started to melt the wires in the wall lights, and char the ceiling on a flush fitted fittings:Angry:

Checked wiring and refitted old x1 candle power eco bulbs back in:cry:

I an now learning to type with out finger watching though !

Is there anyway out of this dark depression without having a blaze.

Can anyone tell me in the simplest form how you can get tons of carbon out of a pound or two of coal, beats me. Btw not advertising but a mate of mine who I help out has opened a shop in uttoxeter and we have loads of obsolete bulbs from a electrical wholesaler that closed down , for sale, if interested let me know.::bigsmile: got energy savers and LEDs as well

I'm amazed at this appearing on a motorhoming forum.
I thought everyone would have had LEDs in the house by now, often powered by an array of solar panels on the roof, with a generator for backup. :winky:

eco light bulbs

OK they do take a while to warm up, but they do save money (can't say saving the earth floats my boat). But the one thing that does get my goat, is the smoke alarms. Last year we moved into a new build in Cornwall and zoon (notice the Cornish accent?) that even one slice of toast sets off the one in the kitchen and god help me if I try to fry steak etc.

Normally I'd just remove the batteries, but guess what? In new builds the damned things are permanently hard wired so our only option is to open the kitchen windows!

thats not your only option.....just remove the head if its the fixed base type..
Usually a small tab to press with a screwdriver then slide sideways. Job done.

In reality, you could change the head for a heat alarm, which should have been fitted in the kitchen in the first place.

If you buy the same brand it will be interchangable on the base plate

not a normal dimmer, but you can buy replacements that do allow it to be dimmed. i will have a look later for the details of a replacement dimmer control i bought, which allowed me to adapt an existing decorative dimmer. you just unscrew the old one from its faceplate and wires and replace. from memory only cost £6 or £7 each. led compatible dimmers tend to be £20+ usually

as already mentioned high quality led lights are much better than the tube type. instant light and unlike halogen virtually no heat

One year. A whole one!
Most of my house lights are LED.

Cannot recommend them highly enough!

I get mine from LEDHut. Great quality and customer service.

how many Euro MP's does it take to change a lightbulb ?

Hundreds...and they still got it wrong. :roflmto:

No, the answer is none. They would all swear its still working.
:restmycase: :restmycase: :restmycase: :restmycase:

All the lights in our house are low wattage, no problems with seeing anything, we just made sure they are all at least 11 watt, some 15 watt, but they all come on to full brightness within a few seconds.

( We have solar panels too.........)

I`m a newbie, now 1 year
W e have wall lights that the small shades fit on, 18 altogether, so the old type are the ones that we need, did buy a lot from Aldi when they had the old shape but were low energy they are pretty good, come on straight the way as well, keep looking out for more, hate the other sort will not fit anyway, and they are not good for your eyes,

Getting better
You can buy most lamps in the old format that work from lightbulbsdirect they sell the incandescent lamps as industrial only but they work fine in all my fittings. For what it's worth I think that the incandescent lamp will eventually be replaced with the LED and the current rash of slow starting fluorescent will go the same way as Betamax..
