wanted camp site by the sea (1 Viewer)

next may I want to take my grand kids away for a week what we need is a site within walking distance of the sea .but the beach needs to be sand .
would like to go on the south coast

Camping and caravan Folkestone rite next to the beach and sand bit of a tight drive down to site but I managed with tag axle and car on tow you can walk to dover on the coast

Expensive-: Pentewan Sands Cornwall, not even a road to cross.
Budget, check if the Camping and Caravanning Club have a THS at WeymouthRugby Club, walking or safe cycling distance of beach.
Other expensive ones are Ladram Bay and Sandy bay near Exmouth, walked past both but not camped there.

not south coast but the east, southwold no hookups when we was last there but they were threatening to instal some great place with kids dunes beach pier crabbing in the harbour fresh fish at the sheds around the harbour, miles of walking proper old seaside town is 10 mins walk pubs and restaurants.beach huts a pier and a brewery for the grown ups
looks like they will have a website running this year previously you had to phone waveny council to book also in their charges they mention electrics so maybe they have some pitches with power now

theres a safari park at kessingland and a theme park at pleasurewood hills
if you want to gothere booking is esential as its very busy at weekends but calm during the week

There is a camp site at South Shields (not quite the South Coast, I admit). It is literally over the road from the beach, a funfair, two great parks, with a boating lake and stream railway and a brand new swimming pool. Go in the school holidays and there is free children's entertainment on the beach.

We used the THS at Weymouth for the Olympics - bit of a walk/cycle to the sea - but through a great park with all sorts of activities for kids. And Weymouth is just delightful.

Also the Camping & Caravanning Club THS at Burton Bradstock is lovely - delightful village and The Hive Beach Cafe is great!

We bought this book a few months ago for inspiration. It's not comprehensive by any means, however, a few nice sites in there and it gives some specifically for hobbies, eg fishing, kayaking...........

Campsites by the sea

Hi, we live only 5 miles from Pentewan Sands and it is a good family site with direct access to the beach, literally straight off the front of the site, a modern restaurant/bar and swimming pool on site, a good pub 200 yards away and Mevagissey just a few minutes down the road. But it does get very busy and you will pay for the privilege, though that's probably true for all similar sites.

When our kids were young we used to go every year to Ruda, at Croyde bay in North Devon. Ruda camp is only 100 yards from a great beach and has even more family attractions than pentewan. There are also other less expensive campsites in Croyde and we have used them more recently with our grandchildren. Of the two, I would opt for Croyde! Happy camping! :thumb:

Like HymerB544 we only live a couple of miles from Pentewan Sands.

It's a great little site - especially with kids as if the weather is bad the swimming pool will keep them happy.

My family live all over the UK and all stay at Pentewan when they come and visit.

Must agree, we have spent many a nice week there when the kids were young. Nice spot.:thumb:

Hi, Several sites on the Isle of Wight, Nodes point, & Grange farm both have sandy beaches within 100 yards , not cheap sites .
Nodes point is a Park resorts site full facilities small pool indoor, entertainment etc, where as Grange farm is right on the cliff top ( can be windy) , national trust area , beach is basic nothing other than sandy beach and cliff (Jurassic coast ) site has no entertainment no pool, gets very busy , small pitches.
Whitecliff bay site is again all facilities site on top of a cliff but camping field is across the road and about a 400 yards walk to cliff edge and then path to beach as said before not cheap.
But then again the Island is only 60 miles to drive around the whole coast road , plenty of other beach's , also a wide variety of things to do and see around the island, main problem is cost of ferry travel , if you decide to come to the island ensure you get ferry inclusive deals with which ever site you choose, as they get preferential prices.

Hi The camping club site at Normands Bay And has its own sandy beach great for the kids and Pevensey for shops is walking distance.

Book Early!!

thanks for the replys looks like pentawen sands for a week should be fun we have not been on a site for about 10 years .

If you are looking for the spring half term you need to book early, we booked about this time to get a beachside pitch.
There was virtually no tv signal last time we were there. If you are in the Caravan Club check the centre holiday rallies for the half term, they used to have a meet at this time as did the Landrover Caravan Club.

its all booked and paid for looks a nice place we got a pitch right up by the beach .
yes it was expensive @ £300 for a week but that is for 6 of us

By the sea

The Toll Gate campsite just outside of Perranporth Cornwall, there is a footpath down through the golf course straight to the huge sandy beach, 5mins walk. The beach has another huge plus, a bar on the beach The Watering Hole, selling drinks and food all day in the summer. For Pub grub, the nearby Bolingey Inn, (a village about 1.5 miles from Perran), great food, great prices and great beer. The Bolingey is where the locals go.

Perran is good for a family holiday, my grand kids love it. Stay away from Newquay, a den of iniquity unless you like that sort of thing Lol:thumb:
